Today is my second day of HRT. I asked for finasteride in addition to spiro and estradiol when I was at the doctor's office this week to help with my receding hairline, but the doctor said it was dangerous and that finasteride could only be used as an alternative to spiro instead of in conjunction with it and made me choose between the two of them. This was after he asked me if finasteride is the same thing as minoxidil, so I don't think he really understood what he was doing.

From what I can gather, it should be okay to use finasteride with spiro and estradiol as long as you monitor them with blood tests, which you're gonna be doing anyway. Also, I'm pretty sure finasteride only blocks the production of DHT and not testosterone itself; otherwise, they wouldn't use it in cis men for long periods of time like they do. If I'm not mistaken, finasteride alone wouldn't be effective as an anti-androgen for purposes of HRT, so of course I chose spiro.

Does anyone know if it is safe or not to use finasteride with spiro? Are any of you taking both spiro and finasteride? I'm doing a follow up with an endocrinologist in April, but I'm really irked that I couldn't get finasteride right away.

I use both finasteride and Spiro along with estradiol and progesterone. No problems for me thus far.

It's safe if you're monitored. With all oral meds your liver and kidneys are your primary concern but your doctor will be monitoring them anyway.

Finasteride is a pretty safe drug and there really is not a problem with using both finasteride and spironolactone at the same time. My doctor has prescribed me both with no problem. Hell finasteride is super easy to get, I started it with a legit prescription just from filling out a questionnaire on the website of a chemist. I was not even monitored and it is not majorly important to be when just on finasteride either (not the case on full HRT). Finally, no, finasteride is not a good anti-androgen. It only blocks DHT, (and the other various functions of 5 alpha reductase) in some people it can cause a feedback loop which will reduce T but in some people other studies have said it can increase T. So yea, get the spiro and talk to him about the fin if you think you need it. However since T + 5 alpha reductase -> DHT if you are on spiro and it reduces your T to a low level you will have very little DHT anyway and it may not be necessary.

Me too, I'm on Fines and Spiro, get my blood fully tested regularly as well as heart rates...
