I use human hair wigs with pu on the edges that I keep on my head with double sided tape so I can remove them easily at the end of each day without a mess. I also wash them as needed and brush them and rub alcohol on the pu and my head before putting them on. Despite this wigs itch horribly if I try to stay with them for more than several hours straight and this makes my time with my gf past the first couple of hours hell and limits my social and external interaction for up to several hours a day and if I do more I suffer physically from the itching. I keep a completely shaven head. Growing my hair or transplants are not options for me since my hair is too thin.

Does anyone have experience with wig itch and have other things for me to try? This is severely hampering me socially unless it is fixed, considering my feminine appearance is zero from my body and mostly due to the wigs.

No, and I don't wear them anymore because I grew my hair out. I used to get mine cut with the #2 gaurd, when my hair grew out my head would sweat and itch unbearably.  It stopped after awhile, how long have you been wearing wigs?

I've been wearing them for over a year the human hair wigs. Before that dabbled for a year with synthetics. Back then I didn't have a gf so my interactions could be limited to several hours. This last year doing hrt and laser hair removal I also switched to human hair wigs and I met my gf and it works for her to spend weekends only with me and it entails sleeping over which entails for me trying to bear staying with the wig on for the entire day of two days a week and the itch at that point becomes unbearable and instead of enjoying my time with her I just think about the hair and how it itches and the thought about it provoked by the itch makes me concious of how it isn't my hair and makes it hard for me to take my femininity seriously.  I try not to think about it but the itch doesn't go away and keeps reminding me. I need a solution for this itching issue.

Are you wearing a wig cap?

I've tried putting those on but they only feel hot and sticky and stick out if I comb the hair back which I often need to for it to not obscure my view or get into my food. I felt no benefit from putting a wig cap on as I shave my hair completely routinely anyway.

Google is telling me you should use witch hazel daily, and check the base of the wig carefully to make sure hairs aren't poking back through.

The wigs don't have hairs sticking inside out. I can clearly feel the itch is not coming from the hairs but from the connection to my scalp. I'll check out witch hazel.

I hope someone has experience with this or am I the only trans woman out there completely dependant on wigs to appear vaguely feminine?

This Friar Tuck needed wigs since 16. I never had a problem with itching as you describe. I also use wig tape.

Is there a possibility your skin is reacting to any of the adhesives?

I've tried two wig tape types. One of them hypoallergenic. No difference.

How do I know if my skin is reacting other than the fact I'm itching and is there anything I can do about it?

A good test would be to try a piece of the tape on another sensitive area, perhaps your chest or upper arm.

Elastic based wigs (which fit very securly) don't create an itch for me at all.  However when I was wearing a hair system both types of adhesive used drove me up the wall.  Some of us just seem to be more sensitive to the adhesives.

Can you wear your wig with hair clips or elastic instead of tape to rule out the wig itself?

How do you get elastic to keep the sides of the wig down when pulling my hair back? It's not secure as far as I'm concerned if every time I pull my hair back the wig lifts. As for hair clips even if I had hair to clip on to I didn't see it prevents the wig lifting when pulling back hair. So I'd feel very insecure worrying all the time that I'd have to avoid pulling back my hair to avoid the wig lifting.

Ah, I wear short hair so it isn't an issue for me.  As an experiment can you just try it without wig tape and wear it down the whole time?

Putting a powder on your scalp prior to putting on your hair might help. It will create a sight barrier
