Scientists Grow Hair Using Stem Cells

By Justine Alford, IFL Science

http://www.iflscience.com/health-and-medicine/scientists-grow-hair-using-stem-cells

For the first time, a team of U.S. scientists has developed a technique to convert human stem cells into a type of cell that is capable of initiating hair growth. When these cells were transplanted into mice lacking hair, they successfully induced human hair growth, suggesting that with further development, this method could lead to a cell-based treatment for people suffering hair loss.

This sounds cool, hopefully they can fund it and get it to work. My hair's already thinning badly and idk how much effect the estrogen will do to fix/ cure it.

Just what we need, mice with a mohawk

Punk rock mice, wot! It's punk, innit! (-.-)V

On a serious note, that would be pretty brill if this actually worked.

Scientists have managed to grow new hair on mice by turning human embryonic stem cells into neural crest cells, and then into dermal papillae cells. The cells were implanted into the mice, which induced hair follicle formation (I guess presumably human hair?) It sounds like they're looking for funding to start human trials next.

Oh I am such a vain boy, I really hope this is a viable thing sometime soon!  My biggest worry about T is not the potential scary stuff but the idea that I am gonna lose my hair like my dad  :P Let us all have gorgeous do's and look fabulous forever!  XD
You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space.

Good news: it works and you grow a full head of hair.

Bad news: you grow hair everywhere else and look like a Wookie.    :o

Ehh I could live with that. There's always electrolysis or laser. may cost a little more in the end but be more worth it.

I was just realizing today how much facial hair can make a man's chin look more angular, and it hit me that this procedure might be really useful someday to help transgender men grow more facial hair. I wonder if it would work for that.

This is great, my biggest fear about starting T is losing my hair. I read about the side effects and "hair loss" scared me more than "death" haha, I'm so vain  :)

Interesting!!! Except for the mice, I think I can be easily persuaded. I have always wanted to grow my hair like any other girls have but my hairline seems to be not cooperating. LOL. Seriously, I hope to read more of it and hopefully reviews will be posted too.

I've heard a lot about stem cells, maybe this is the answer to all disease.

I will definitely look into stem cell although I have already drawn interest with Bosley because of the reviews I have read. If stem cell's focus is a lot more then maybe it is worth what it is cost.

I think hair loss is everybody's issue lol well mine too that's why. I'm not losing hope though  ;)
