Has anyone who is F to M, had surgery that allows them to stand during urination? When I had my surgeries done in '89, it was considered dangerous and the only one I had heard of was a guy who had gone through the surgery and after several infections, was now on dialysis.

I'm probably too old for that surgery (51), but I hate not being able to stand and urinate. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for all that I have, but i wondered if the procedure had advanced to a safer status.

along those lines, have any F to Ms had their V's closed? I contracted a few Dr.s about it and was told that eliminating the vagina was too dangerous. They could make it smaller, but could not completely get rid of it. They said it was too close to the nerves in the pelvic area and could result in incontinence or serious infection.

Yes there are better technicians for the urination hook up.

Most now are using the inner labia to forms a tube.

It still hold risks and many times if the labia are on the small side that might have to do a bridge connection.

As for vagina yes most are removed and closed when they do the Phalloplasty.

It is only done if you had a Hysterectomy.

I am living with this now. My hubby just had his phalloplasty done so working each step with him.

I'll just squash that jealous feeling and replace it with feeling greatful that others are getting the benefit of modern techniques. At this point, as much as I would like to have the ability to urinate through my penis, at my age, I wouldn't heal as well, and now have other health issues that would make me a poor candidate.

Good luck with your husband's surgery. I hope it works well and there are no complications!

Sam, you said you're only 51. Is there an age they so doing these at? By the time I'm able to look at getting mine I'll likely only be 5 years younger than you are.

I don't really know. Younger people heal faster and have more elastic tissue, but the few Dr.s I've asked online have never balked at my age. My health is what is stopping me. There is a Dr. who is at the forefront of trans surgeries, I wish i could remember his name. He does them both in the states, or, at cheaper rates if you care to travel to Taiwan. He is incredibly expensive though.

Hopefully not bumping a totally dead topic but from my research the surgery has improved vastly but there are still pretty substantial risks that make me leery of this sort of procedure.  Power to anyone who does go for it or wants a similar procedure!  :)  There's certainly a lot of happy guys who have had phalloplasties of some kind of another in the last decade and been VERY pleased with results!

My cons as I see it:
not always the greatest stream.  Many guys complained they aren't peeing in a stream so much as functioning like a sprinkler and spraying wildly in all directions depending on the individual.

decreased sexual function.  I know some people are more disphoric by having genitals that do not fit them, but for me enjoying myself and feeling good is priority.  I am totally ok with losing most or all chest sensation to look masculine up top, I would possibly become suicidal if I gambled and lost sensation or function in my genitals.

loss of urinary control.  While normally I urge anyone to reach for the stars, do what they love and don't let anyone tell them no or it's impossible... the thought of having to need diapers as an adult is a big fear of mine.  Whether permanent or temporary I have a very hard time dealing with the idea of this risk and I will admit I'm a terribly vain and prideful guy! If I get old and lose control i will have to deal with it, but I guess I can't bring myself to any further risk.

Shaving your shaft:  I did not think of this until someone told me, her BF shaves his entire shaft.  The skin was from his arm I believe and the hair and freckles are all stuff that came along with it!  Still looks great but I'm not sure how i feel about this one either, ha ha!
You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space.
