Realize that outside of one person on another forum, I haven't talked to other transgenders for years. What exactly is a cis gender? I could look it up, but sometimes definitions from others who are in the culture is much more understandable.

For years I avoided forums that dealt with transitioning. I guess it was part of just wanting to forget the life I had and live the one I have. its been a relief to be able to talk about issues that effect both F to M and M to F.
Everyone has been patient and helpful here.

Cis gender is someone who is not transgender, a-gender or inter-sex. Basically everyone else.

Yep, it's a way of referring to people who identify as the gender they were assigned at birth without calling them "normal," which, um, wouldn't be right.

Thanks. There are some words and abbrieviations that I haven't heard of and I appreciate everyone's patience.

It's Latin for "on the same side of" while trans means "on the opposite side of". People who have taken chemistry see the term "cis" there (obviously not related to gender).

This is true. Same applies for chemistry

Thank you for the straight forward explaination. I just always referred to people as xx males or xy females, but then, I hadn't been in touch with the transgender community for years.

Yeah, our terms are flourishing and multiplying exponentially lately! Haha

But I think I prefer the word cis to the words bio____, or xx/xy ____. Rolls off the tongue a bit more, and calling someone a biowoman or bioman seems a little off for me. Not sure what it is? Maybe there's a subconscious implication I haven't acknowledged yet, but it somehow feels like I'm basically saying "Oh yeah he's bioman...I'm not a biological male and therefor am not male"
Which you know...kind of causes some issues for me. LOL

And explaining cis is like the quickest thing.
Trans means across, or on the other side, or between, or changing.
Cis means the exact opposite. Someone's staying in place instead of moving.

I don't like "bio" because, I'm biological-- not an android. "Genetic" perhaps works a little better. XX or XY kind of implies I know what my chromosomes are, I don't.
