Hi all,

This morning I gave myself my third shot of T, second one at home. The last two shots I administered intramuscularly into my left vastus lateralis (outer thigh) muscle, but this time, I went with my right. I stuck the needle, aspirated -- no blood. Good, right? So I push down, slowly, inject the T, pull out. A trickle of blood runs down my thigh, but not really a lot, but it's been 15 hours or so now and my thigh still doesn't hurt. Did I do it wrong, could all the T have seeped out with the blood? I mean, the last two times, I was sore within the hour, but this time, almost nothing, just a little painless bruise close to the surface of my injection site. Any insight, has this happened to anyone else before?

I can't imagine it seeped out with the blood and I would think no pain was a good sign but I'll leave that to the guys with T injecting experience.

I kind of thought it was good at first too, but given the thick nature of the oil-suspended T and how I felt in my other leg minutes after injection, I just don't know if I even hit the muscle. I'm also kind of a worrier, so there's that

Have you done a few under supervision previously? I'll admit to knowing nothing about this kind of injection but I figure if it gets into you then it's in you...??

I performed the first shot under the supervision of a nurse at my medical center, and the second one at home. The one I did at home was about on-par in terms of soreness and a swollen injection site compared to the first.

For comparison, it's essentially the same procedure as when you get a flu shot, but in your thigh instead of your shoulder, since it's a larger muscle.

Well, let's just wait to hear from the other guys. Chances are it went OK so fingers crossed.

If you missed the muscle, I think that's not exactly bad for a one time thing. T still absorbs from fat, so I imagine that wherever the T is, it'll get to your blood. But I know little about IM so I'd wait for others to chime in. with the amount you probably inject, I imagine that you'd have noticed if  a significant amount seeped out with the blood. Or it was a TON of blood. But the difference in whatever might have seeped out should be minimal, and for one injection shouldnt make a difference.

I've been getting/doing IM shots for over a year, and I don't think there's anything to worry about. Sometimes I have soreness to varying degrees and occasionally I have none. It just varies. I think if you relax the muscle as much as possible and massage it before and after the shot there's a better chance of having little to no soreness later on.

First shot I did I didn't even feel it go in. But back then I had very fatty thighs. Within 6 hours I could barley walk. I had gotten this weird pain in my knee. Did some research and it was "normal". Second shot, I felt it go in, slight muscle pain. Normal. Third shot went well. Slight muscle pain. Shot after that, hurt, no blood, no pain. Fifth shot, hurt going in no pain. It all depends. You never know how you're gonna react . Sometimes it hurts and other times it doesn't. You could get blood you could not. As long as you more or less do it the same each time, you will usually be fine.

I have done hundreds of IM injections over the years...sometimes they hurt, sometimes they don't.  Sometimes they bleed, sometimes they don't.  Sometimes I see a little bit of the oil seep out, sometimes I don't.  Sometimes my skin is very tough to pierce, sometimes it is not.  I tend to rotate my injection sites, too, which I think is a good idea.  I am not a doctor, but I am pretty sure you are okay, and that you received enough T in that injection    So, relax and enjoy the ride...

Thank you for all the reassurance and support, guys, you've really put my mind at ease. Still no soreness, so I have no idea at this point, but I don't feel abnormal so I guess I'm okay. On the bright side of all this, I've done a little more research into intramuscular injections, and next time I am going to try the z-track method for injections; it's supposed to prevent medication leakage, and seems fairly straightforward.

My very first shot in each leg hurt (what bodybuilders refer to as "virgin muscle"), but now it's rare is the muscle gets sore.  I was worried, too, because the very first shot was done by the nurse and she hit a nerve, so I was expecting it to hurt like that every time (and I was quite scared!).  It wasn't until the second injection that I realized the nurse must have hit a nerve.

Yeah I haven't hit a nerve yet, so that's something to look forward to, I suppose  I guess as a quick little update, my leg was fine all today until about 5, when I clocked out of my internship; so about 36 hours after applying my shot, my leg finally tensed up and is now so tight that I couldn't even think of sitting down on my knees. So my muscles were a little late to the party but finally made that oh-so-nice little sterile abscess that makes T such a joy *sarcasm*.

A nurse gives me my shot (apparently I have to have it done this way) and does it in my gluteus maximus. I've never felt any pain, except a light pinch from it going in.  I can feel it going in all the way if I tense my muscle, I've since learned to let my leg relax and not stand on it while she's giving the shot.  But I've never felt any discomfort.  Dunno if it's normal or not, but such has been my experience.  I'm on a rather low dose and I've still seen significant changes, including my monthly man bleed stopping.  I'm sure you're fine.

Ask your doctor about smaller (thinner?) needles! My first shot didn't hurt at all because my doctor prescribed me really tiny injection needles that go all the way in the site (the needles i was prescribed for loading the testosterone are huge lol!), I was a bit sore but as far as the injection hurting: nothing!

shots don't hurt at all for me, so you may just be adjusting to the pain. my first two i felt nothing the day of the shot, but the next day it was somewhat sore; which is to be expected with a shot. i don't experience that pain anymore.

My first two didn't hurt, no lump, just a dot of blood. Just took third shot minutes ago.  I was worried I'd done it wrong. I was shown how to do the injection on a foam block, and sent a video, but I did my shots on my own. I'm weekly and am having a voice drop, so I guess it's working!

Update: I drew back blood when aspirating, so I tossed that syringe and did the injection on the same thigh, but a couple inches away. Today the place where I drew blood hurts, but not the actual injection site.

My first shot made my tuckus sore for a while, but that was just bruising.  Aside from a tiny pinch when the needle goes in, I might feel a little 'warmth' from the testosterone going in, but that's it.
