I have a big favor to ask of you wonderful people.
I've recently been invited to take part in a statewide (VIC, Aus) trans youth summit. The plans are a bit patchy to me at the moment, so until I get a solid understanding of what I'm taking part in I'll refrain from revealing anything.
HOWEVER.
I have been given a list of questions regarding trans youth, and what events we can organize to help make Victoria better for them.
I was hoping that there may be a few people who can help me fill in the blanks, and/or add any other answers to what I've already got.
1. What is it like for trans youth in your area?
The trans youth in my area are largely influenced by the many religious schools and organizations around. However, aside from these the most part of trans suffering within my area comes from lack parental information, and the inability for the trans youth to really connect with one another.Question 1 is just regarding my town, however the rest are fairly general. I only live in my town, and given the very small amount of noise the Australian trans community actually makes, I honestly have nothing to make comparisons with.
The rest of the questions are as below, and of course one does not need to be youth to answer, we were all youth at some stage, right?
Quote2. How does this compare with what its like for other young people across Victoria?
3. What do you think young gender diverse people in Victoria need?
-[safe] Visibility
-trans role models
- access to trans specific gear (packers, binders, breast forms, wigs)
4. If gender diverse youth from across Victoria came together for a forum, what would you like to see happen for that time?
-Relaxed, social conversation.
-Reassurance and encouragement from elder trans folk.
5. What mix of political and social events do you think would be good?
6. What particular workshops would you like to see? Who would you like to see run these workshops?
7. What social activities might you like to do?
-Camping trips
-trans youth 18+ nights (These could get wild, right?)
-[safe] underage trans gatherings
8. Would you like a parents and families stream attached to the conference?
9. If families did come, what would conversations or workshops would you like to see happen?
Thanks errbody.
