'This week we will be voting on H.R. 3685, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2007. This bill is designed to protect lesbian, gay and bisexual Americans from discrimination in the workplace.

While I am grateful that we are taking an important step towards ensuring that all workers are judged solely on the merits of their performance, this bill is limited in that it excludes too many individuals. I urge you to join with me in voting for Congresswoman [Tammy] Baldwin's amendment to restore gender identity as a protected area in the bill.'
