I want to change my birth certificate but for a different reason.....

When I was born my mother refused to put my fathers name on the birth certificate, therefor when I was growing up I didn't know who my father was. She knew who he was and gradually I found out and went to see him (I was 29 by then). Where it should state 'father' on the birth certificate it's blank and I want it rightly filled in with the correct details? I also took his surname when I changed my name, so it would tie in better with me if the certifuicate was amended.

Anyone know what to do about this. I'm in the U.K by the way..

Hi Berleigh,

It is legally possible in the UK to add the name of a Father, when this is NOT on the original Birth Certificate.

It does however require written consent from the Mother (obviously if she is willing).

Try the Registrar of Births, Marriages and Deaths where you are, they should be able to help you further.

Thanks Rebecca. that will be the big problem, her hatred for my father is still there even though he died in 2004. I doubt if she will sign anything and it was her who decided to leave him off the birth certificate in the first place.....
