22-year-old Bri Golec has recently returned to a transgender support group in the Akron, Ohio area. She had participated a few years ago, then stopped attending. Recently, she began to more assertively explore her gender identity.
Sadly, Bri will not have the chance to continue her journey after an altercation with her father, Kevin Golec, left her dead in their home.

Lock up the animal who murdered her. Throw away the key. Dude isn't even fit to breathe air.
Family acceptance matters. My dad doesn't talk to me. It hurts. He isn't going to kill me or harm me but it hurts. Thankfully most of the rest of my family is accepting and loving. I am a parent and I accept and love my kids for whoever they are, end of story. If my son or daughters decide to explore their gender identity differently from how they were assigned at birth, I will love them no matter what. NO MATTER WHAT.
Media misgendering. Misgendering, even by accident is still unacceptable. They do need to be more sensitive. I work with reporters and I kind of "get" why they do it as they deal with police reports and similar sources, but still, they need to be more careful about it.
Also, trans youth issues don't end at 18, or even 21. This woman was 22 years old. I would argue that any age where you are close to family can involve issues of acceptance that can turn violent or even deadly. It is especially true in cultures that encourage things like honor killings and killings of LGBT persons.
