Heather Exley

Hi Everyone,

Okay not a serious discussion, something on the lighter side. How did YOU choose/get your new name.

I'll start us off. Coming out as woman has made me and my Mum amazingly close. Since she brought me into this World and gave me my male name, John, I felt it was only right and proper that she gave me my new name, Heather.
My middle name is the same as my Mums but it is also the middle name of a heroine of mine Melanie Anne Phillips.
My surname is the same 'til I meet that special Man or Woman and we get spliced!!

I'd love to hear your story.

Luv & Hugs going out for the lot of you.  :icon_bunch: :icon_bunch: :icon_bunch:

Leyn

I have always like the name sarah so i guess it was only natural that i decided to take that for my first name,
I did choose it before i came out to my family but my mum loved the name so im sure if i had of given her the choice it would have been it :D

As for my middle name, a friend of mine (the first person i came out to) sugested Dawn (might be kinda old fasioned ..... my mum thinks so anyway lol) but i really liked the way it sounded when said with my first name

still kinda working on my last name, all i really know at this point in time is that im getting rid of the one i have now

Tori

I chose me name because I needed a user name for Susan's. After some thought I decided on Tori.

Over time I really grew to like it so I started using it when I began transition.

Now, it is my name.

I am Sophie (short for Sophia)

The interesting thing is that I cannot remember how it came about. It felt like it was always there, and I only changed names a few months ago.

I didn't want a female version of my birth name, and although I have a unisex birth middle name, I didn't like it for a first name, so after much thought, I decided on Karen; I love the name, it fits my personality, and it goes well with my middle and last name.

Ashtyn

Oddly enough, I got my name from a video game character. I had forgotten my character's original name, so I decided to call her Ashtyn. Eventually somehow it got into the running for what I would call myself. I loved so many names, yet none of them felt right for me, so despite my reluctance at naming myself after a vg character, I used Ashtyn when I joined Susan's and a few other places and for now I can't really imagine using anything else when I go ft. My middle name is just a feminized version of the name I've always gone by(Not my birth name)

Picked a name that I always liked and was closest to my pretence name... That way signatures can remain the same  ;)

What Does Name "Chellie" Mean
You are cheerful and friendly, but are apt to have an emotional life. You like to have several lines of effort going at once. You are a good talker and promoter and seldom worry over anything. At times, you can be impatient, and impulsive. You have the ability to bring an idea to completion. You can express yourself joyously and constructively. You might be psychic, but not know it. When I first started coming out (now 3 years ago) I wanted people to call me "Henna". It felt okay and it started with the same two letters as my birth name so it felt suitably related. Later that year I started to get more unsure about the name. Partly because it did not feel like me, and partly because of all the questions that arrived following the then intense "hen" debate in Sweden. So me and my former and very supportive girlfriend started thinking about a new one and we both came up with Sofia which felt really good as soon as I decided to test it. I gave it a try and it just came so natural for everyone. All my friends changed day one and almost no one ever said Henna anymore.

I than changed my name legally to Sofia and kept Henna and my mothers name as middle names and has never looked for another one  :)

It`s a long time ago now, but I remember wanting to get as far as I could from my given {at birth} names........I would have changed the surname too, had then been easily possible.

I was only a teen (1979) and somehow I summoned the inner-courage to go {alone} to the 'Commissioner for Oaths' office and tell them straight-out what I wanted to do, why and which was to be MY name........In the first act of stranger kindness I experienced in my transition; he and his legal-assistant, both warmly shook my hand and wished me every happiness........I`ve never forgotten that small act of acceptance.

One of the really-good aspects of being transsexual, is having the opportunity to choose one`s own name; for, over the years I`ve met several natal-females who absolutely loathed their given names, but thought changing 'just' for that reason would seem wholly unacceptable in the eyes of family/others.

Kindest regards,
Deb.

Joanne Feliz

When I was a kid my dad used to tease me about being a girl and would call me Joanna.  I decided to embrace that and use that name or similar Joanne as my name.  It was a very confusing time as a child as I was quite feminine and my dad would tease me relentlessly with that name so I would man up.  Subsequently I had to hide my feeling and behaviors etc...

Sabrina

My name comes from Sabrina the Psychic gym leader from the original Pokemon games. Psychics were always and still are my favorite Pokemon type. Plus, I think Sabrina is a very pretty and sexy name.

allisonsteph

I have always liked the name Allison and when I was growing up I wished that it were my name.  I love to write and whenever I wrote a story that had a female character in it her name was Allison. When I started embracing my femininity that is the name I started using without hesitation, and it is now my legal name.
