Big hips after T

Hey guys, wanted to bring something up that's been bugging me. I've been on testosterone for over 4 years now and during that time my weight has fluctuated a lot from 220 to 160 and now holding steady at 180. Some fat has shifted to my stomach but my hips are still huge. I guess I thought the weight from my hips would have shifted, especially with my weight loss and gain. Has anybody else experienced anything similar? I'm aware that body fat redistribution takes a long time but I would think more would be done by now.

I actually was considering making a thread about this myself. I'm nowhere near as long on T as you and I still have hope my hips will change, as will much more of my fat, but so far my thighs have slimmed down a little bit, especially closer to the knee, but my hips are the same. It makes them look even bigger in comparison than they were before which really gives me bad dysphoria. I used to be fine with my hips because in proportion to the rest of my leg they weren't awful, but now the difference in thickness is much more pronounced. I can feel that quite a bit of the width is fat, I know it isn't bone, so it's really frustrating.

Yup, I have the same issue. I'm almost 2 years on T and I can't say they changed much. I tried everything, including dieting/sporting them off. But only when I became underweight did I see a change. Seeing that's far from healthy I decided to go back to a healthy weight and behold, the hips/thighs just returned. Damned things.

It's so frustrating i'm considering liposuction. I even already had a consult (it was free, so I figured, why not? :P).

My hips also haven't changed at all. I'm 5 years on T, they are not huge or big but the fat distribution that came in the beginning has stopped so there's still fat on them. I haven't tried losing weight though I'm about 73 kg and 175 cm tall

Is it actually the fat itself or the combination of some fat + hip width (as in bone, not flesh)?  I think that for many guys with wide (bone structure-related) hips, the shape will be there in some form or another. 

I still have some shape there at over 3 years on T, too.  I try to draw away from it with bulking out my upper body.

It's definitely fat. When it comes to suits my shoulders are a 36 but my hips are made for a 44.

my body is basically straight now, but i gained 35lbs..... my hips gradually went in (only 4 months though) and my thighs are losing little by little, but it's really frustrating for me. did you just lose the weight alone or were you exercising? a friend of mine compared the process to losing baby fat, as you do during puberty.

I'm not planning to go on T and I have huge hips. Someday I hope I'll have enough saved for lipo. Just earlier today I was looking at a website on passing where they were pointing out that overall body shape usually provides the gut instinct knowledge of what sex a person is (regardless of their gender) and a flat chest is unlikely to override the impression created by female curves on the hips.  :(

I just measured yesterday because I had the strangest "I feel fatter but also thinner" feeling after I got dressed. I lost an inch off my waist and while I can't say for sure because I didn't do around the torso measurements, I feel a little thicker in the gut. My thighs are still stupid big though.

My hips are still wide 3 years in. I've lost a lot of weight (226 down to 172 and dropping) but that hip fat just stays. My bone structure is pretty wide though so I built up my shoulders. I've lost a lot of weight on my legs though, so I look a little out of proportion to me. My partner says I see more than anyone else, but it's still irritating. I think my hips stopped shrinking at 39 inches.

Part of the problem may lay in the bone structure itself. The female skeleton has hips that are shaped differently than men, mainly to allow for birth. Unfortunately, T can't change bone structure.

There are some cis men who also have "hips" if you observe the people around you next time you go to someplace like a mall. Where you lay down your extra fat is partly due to hormones, but there is also a genetic factor. Have you ever seen cis women who look like they have the hips of a prepubescent boy?

Admittedly, I'm not up to date on all the cosmetic procedures available these days, but I don't think there are any procedures to reshape the bone structure.

If you want to offset the width of your hips, start a weight lifting program that isolates your shoulders. Hold a dumbell in each hand, with the surface of the palm pointed towards the hips and raise your arms with up sideways. Kind of like you were making a snow angel like kids do. This will help develop your shoulder muscles, widening them and making your hips appear to be smaller than they are. Be careful though, because that isn't a movement we naturally make a lot and you don't want to strain or injure yourself.

I have too many shoulder injuries to work out my shoulders. If I stick my right arm straight out to the side and swing it forward the joint cracks. It also makes a noise when I go from the side up a little higher to a down position. Left side doesn't make as much noise but there's still a lot of clicking.

It's probably skeletal at this point. But your fat distribution has everything to do with what you eat, really. Fat is going to build up where it wants to. And as fat depletes, it depletes from where it wants to, not where you work it from. A lot of people have the misconception that if you work out your arms, you'll lose fat from your arms. Or if you work out your stomach, you'll lose fat from your stomach. This isn't the case. The fat essentially is converted into muscle but does not 'go away' simply because you are working out. If you want a leaner figure or less body fat, you need to do a lot of cardio and eat better.

When you work out, you are working out your muscles, not your fat. The fat is over the muscles. So you can do 100 sit ups a day and still not see any results. It's like putting a cake behind a sheet. You can't see the cake, but it's still there. You just have to take the sheet away.

If you start removing all the junk from your diet you should start seeing results immediately. It's hard, but if it is indeed just fat on your hips, changing your diet to a healthier one will start solving that problem. :)  Love handles, for instance, the only way to get rid of them is proper diet. :)

Ouch. I have knee problems from an old injury so I sympathize. It really does hinder physical activity.

You said it's mostly fat on your hips, right? Spot weight loss as we know doesn't work, but do you do any lower body workouts? It may help with toning at the very least.

I walk and stuff but I don't work out. You can see a recent picture of me in the you look badass thread.

Took a look.

First off, you're rocking my look. That sweater/slacks combo is nice, man. If had your facial hair I would be happy.

I can't see anything that would make me think anything aside from that you're a guy. My pants hug my hips the same way when I dress for work in a button up and slacks. People assume I played football. If you're concerned about your hips showing maybe a darker color? But like I said, you look like a guy who did a lower body heavy sport like like tackle in football or traditional wrestling.

I am 180 as well and have big hips. They slimmed down a bit after T but not by much. It's the one thing I know I can't really change because it is skeletal as well as fat distribution. Luck of the draw I guess. :-/
