Hi all,
I am curious how to show up to my first Endo visit once I get my appointment set up?
Girl Mode? Guy Mode?
Should my first visit be in Male mode since they will probably call me by my current "male" name and so they know what my "Before" hormones mugshot looks like? hehe

I want to go in Girl mode, but the idea of being called up with a male name and them not knowing what they are starting with kind of worries me.

Any insight?
Thanks

Jess

Hi Jessika,

I go to my doctors from work and I am dressed male. They use my preferred name and I was self conscious at first, now if feels right. When I change me attire at work I will be dresses and be addressed in alignment at my PCP. If I am off from work and go to my PCP it is jeans and a top. In the winter I wear a black very nice thin sectioned down coat.

If you are comfortable dressing in male clothes do so. If you want to wear female clothes do so. If you want to mix clothes than do so. If you want to push your comfort level and grow than do what feels right.

I say this from a Philly PA perspective and perhaps where you live the doctors expect you to dress in woman's clothes.

I would suggest going in 'girl' mode if you are comfortable with that. My endo asked many questions as to my preferred way of dressing as part of her assessment as to my transition process. I went in female mode, back straight leg jeans and bottom up top, and black flats. She even asked if I was wearing women's underwear!

Thanks for the replies everyone. Very helpful.
I will decide once that time grows near.
Called VA today and they are still sitting on the "Request sent to Endo" part. It's been almost 2 weeks and it was approved to goto the Endo so they can see me.

Time....

I would suggest going however you feel most comfortable. I have doubts about ever "passing" so I tend to dress a bit andro. I do wear a sports bra and panties all the time and usually a scarf to cover my balding head. It was nice at my first endo appointment last week to not feel embarrassed undressing though. I hadn't thought about it last fall when I went to my GP checkup and realized too late that I would have to undress :embarrassed:

I don't do a real girl mode right now, but I wore eyeliner and mascara. I don't think it really matters one way or the other, but it felt like I might be taken more seriously.

I'll give you the advise my therapist gave me, go in what ever you feel most comfortable in.  I went to my first therapy session in male, and have been in a dress to all the others since that first one.  I went to my first Endocrinologist consultation in female mode.  I wore my cute polka-dot dress, black cardi, nude hose, and black flats.  I also put on my bright red lip color.  I'm really feeling comfortable in my dresses, and wish I wore them more often as I'm not full time yet.  What ever you do, be comfortable.
Hugs,

-Alana

^THIS^  Being uncomfortable will increase your heart rate and blood pressure, possibly giving the doc a false impression of your overall health.

Thanks for the replies all.
I learned that when I go there I will spend the first 30 mins with a Nurse. (Paperwork ect as a first timer there), then 1 hour with the Doctor himself.
He personally called me and left me a message that I will have blood work done while there and get the results.
Not sure if I will get a prescription while there thou.

Thanks all.

Well, today marks the "under" 30 days until my first Endo visit (May 13th).  ;D

I'm excited and nervous at the same time. Still can't decide how to present there.  :o

Jess, I suggest going in what you feel comfortable wearing because that is more important than anything else at this stage. Good luck and hugs

My 1st endo appointment is via Skype at the local VA outreach on the 27th. I did talk to her about a month
ago tying to push toward my appointment date..This is the VA!! Fat chance!!
Anyways..best of luck to you..I  have been looking forward to this for some time and I can't wait to be relieved
of a bit of the financial burden.
No way am I acceptable in the looks department..I just have to accept it and hope the meds will soon
convince my pshyical body to start resembling a female soon!

They are there to help you and will not judge you. That's why I HIGHLY recommend going in girl mode. I was already fulltime by the time I went so there was no more guy mode for me anyway. I can promise they will understand the name confusion. They wanted my legal name, but were more than happy to take my preferred name and that's what they call me. They call me Ashley. I've even been complimented on my dresses.

I'm really considering going in Girl mode, but kinda antsy going to a Military VA clinic having to leave here at like 5:30AM for an appointment 2 hrs away.
Kinda "omg" about my passing, as we all are lol. So I don't know yet.
Here is a pic of me with my sister and her best friend from this past weekend when I visited her. We were drinking and playing Cards so the pic may be coocoo. lol

As what most have stated already I would go as you are most comfortable as.  You do not need the stress.  I am sure you will do fine.

I'd say you pass.  If you're comfortable, you should just go in Fem mode.  Every hour enfemme is one less hour in male drag.  Either way let us know how you do...

I agree do what ever feels most comfortable.  you have nothing to prove to them. If they were to deny you hormones because of how you dress then find another doctor,

But my first time going to the doctor in femme did make me a bit nervous which raised my blood pressure so they were concerned about giving me injections. I was able to calm down though.
