Hey Everyone,

Rocky night for me 🙁 . Need some opinions, last night when I was sleeping I started to get a bad sharp pain in my back of my leg. I ignored it and went to work (middle management desk job) and after a hour I experienced a head rush, dizzyness, my leg felt really numb, as did my whole side, and I saw stars. I did have a EMS take me to the ER cause I was out of it and couldn't drive myself. However the ER doctors did CTs, EKGs, and some blood work but couldn't find anything and sent me home with a referral to come back later today.

I'm just wondering cause I have never experienced this before, could it be a blood clot related to the HRT? I plan to talk to my main endo when I go back later this month, but wanted some opinions. It was a scary ordeal.

You mentioned the get to the Er?

If so and they did tests I would assume it could have been something else.

I'm curious Akegia, when you ask here if this could be thromboembolism 'clot' related due to HRT, does this mean to say this was 'not' asked during your testing?  If not, in my opinion and believe me I am no professional, a call is neccessary to your endo and maybe even a repeat visit.  I say this because I'm sure different tests may be needed, they would need to know that you are on HRT 'and' specific medication information.  My best, and be safe, precaution is always best.   Dani

The ER asked what I was taking, and asked why I was taking it but only once and they didn't really touch on the subject much honestly and when I brought it up after a bit of being there they didn't seem to change the situation any. I called my endo and he setup a appointment for first thing tomorrow as he is out of town this evening and recommended I setup a visit with my GP aswell, Which I did for later in the week. Recommended if I have any further issues, soreness in my leg(Its still rather sore, but manageable at this time), or dizzyness/lightheaded to go back to the ER at once. (Which trust me I will do!)

I'm so glad you made a call to your endo & GP as well.  I feel better, I was worried right along with you.    As far as experience with this type of matter I cannot help.  Hopefully someone can.  Just glad your ok.   Dani

I got your back because I worry about clots more than anyone I've ever met, and I'm only 21.

So, I get leg pains every day, and now because I walked way too far (3 hours' worth) the other day due to getting lost in the big city while wearing Chuck Taylors, both of my legs have been throbbing nonstop for several days.

I went to the doc about it, and we had a long talk about blood clots.  Basically, if there's no swelling (and, btw, the swelling doesn't lessen), you very likely do not have blood clots.  I talked about my leg pains that have been around forever now, and it's possibly attributable to lack of water in my system as a result of spiro; either that or an electrolyte imbalance.

You're safe! No swelling == no blood clots.

Enjoy your transition, and maybe I can take my own advice!

I've known several people who've died from pulmonary embolisms, one was only 27.  I wouldn't mess around, but rather get to the emergency room right away.  Sounds like that's what you did.   That said, make sure you come to a conclusion on what's causing these issues.  Because if it's not a clot, it could be something else just as serious.

Some get these symptoms from spironolactone due to sodium loss and increased potassium retention, causing electrolyte imbalance. Eating more salty foods, limiting high potassium foods, drinking water, reducing spiro dose sometimes helps. What hormones, medications are you taking? I hope you feel better soon and your doctor resolves your issues. As always, follow their advice and perhaps share with them the feedback you get on here.

I am not a doctor and seeing your doctor is (as you are) the best recommendation. Also, if things change and get worse go to the ED.

I had issues with dehydration to the point of fainting, hitting my head and waking up on the floor. I had several issues of light headedness and seeing stars. I drank a lot more water, ate salt (a lot) and stopped coffee. This stopped the issue.

So far things seem to be fine, and I will follow up today with my Endo Appt, and my GP later.
