I really find it hard to believe that the two option we have now are the best science can do, i mean it's 2015.  I think they don't care about us enough to do anything, I have had so many ideas on how to improve the surgery, tissue expansion for meta, stem cell grown skin for phallo, even the lab grown penis scientists said it couldn't be used for ftm's but they failed to say why and I do not believe that for one second. How hard can it be to increase the size of meta anyway its basically a penis just needs a few inches . Has anyone heard anything promising? I am getting sick of waiting

Well, the lab-grown penises do seem promising. They're supposed to be doing human trials soon. It's only a matter of time before it's perfected and hopefully a less bigoted group of researchers picks up on the work and adapts some of the techniques to use in SRS for trans men which, speaking cynically, I'm sure they will seeing as the health and mental health industries can make a lot of money from us since transitioning is so expensive.

They cant currently work on ftms because they use penile tissue from the recipient as a base for the lab grown penises.
I am rehearsing for a role, and the role is my life.

Using the penile tissue excuse doesn't seem logical to me because the clit is the exact same tissues. I know that's the reason they give but personally I think it's a bs reason.

I am male because I say so and nothing more.
I don't have to look or act like one therefore.

The tissue of the clitoris is not like the skin, where you can putt expanders just under the skin and stretch the skin.  You would have to graft tissue onto the clitoris to increase a meta, which is currently available.  It's known as phalloplasty.  I think the people holding out for a 100% bioidentical in every way to a cis penis surgical option are going to be sadly disappointed when that doesn't appear within the next 10 years.

It's naive to think that the scientists are out there doing absolutely nothing.  People are working on it, but it takes a lot of time.  Research takes time, trials on animals take time and effort to get it to the point where you can do human trials.  Human trials will take time.  You have to take into account the surgery/s performed are going to be time intensive, healing will be time intensive, and then going back and improving what needs to be improved and doing new trials on that will take more time.

I myself often wonder why we can't use lab grown skin for phallo purposes. I'd be twenty times more inclined to do it if it didn't involve ripping skin off some other part of my body.

They really just need to figure out how to enlarge the Meta that's their best bet because a clitoris is basically an underdevoloped penis and is formed from the exact same tissue. Forget the Phallo why would I wanna cover my dick up with skin from other places I am not feeling the phallo like I used to, I am pretty sure there is a way to enlarge the Meta plus it gets erect on its own.

The market for this specific type of surgery is quite small, limited to trans folks and cismen who may have sustained heavy damages to their genitals. Compared to something like AIDS, where millions are affected, and therefore, more researchers are invested in, it'll take a while. I mean, there's not even a cure for AIDS yet, some promises, but no cure. I think we're waiting for too much miracle to happen for bottom surgery. Science isn't magic.

There was a concept floating around about possibly integrating an internal penile stretcher into a meta from one guy, but this was a few years ago, and I know of no current plans to incorporate this process, but you can read about it here:

In a sense I agree with CursedFireDean. Particularly in using our own skin tissue from the lower area. The clit might not be compatible, since it's not *skin* tissue, but the surgeons already use the outer labial tissue for creating a scrotal sac, is there not a possibility of using that tissue to help with penile construction? I would be happy with that since I'm not really interested in an erection per se (I'm pretty much a-sexual and not interested), but having the member would go a long way for me.

If a penis can be regenerated then cells from the clitoris can be regenerated into the form of a penis. The researchers create an artificial scaffolding in the form of the organ then seed it with donor cells so the cells can take any form they need it to.

The main problem the team at Wake Forest was having with penis regeneration was reproducing the spongy tissue, the corpus cavernosum, which is what allows the penis to achieve an erection. It's also the same tissue found in the clitoris and why many trans guys are already able to experience erections. Obviously the Wake Forest team has been able to solve whatever issues they were having and have successfully recreated human penises in their lab, corpus cavernosum and all so eventually the same techniques should be able to be used for creating penises from the cells of the clitoris. The cells are all there, all they need to do is create the correct shape for the cells to take so I'm not sure why they keep giving such a sorry excuse for why it can't be done when there's the obvious possibility that it can be.

I think it's logical to test the surgery on cis-males first since even if they did grow a penis from clitoral tissue it would be a completely different process to hook it up, so to speak. Right now I believe they're working with veterans and are only regenerating and replacing parts of the penis that have been lost or damaged so I don't think they've even attached an entire functioning unit yet. Maybe they don't want to be too optimistic at such an early stage? At least they're making advances and perhaps in the future those advances can be used in our favor.

Why cant we grow penile tissue from stem cells from our body
if this is an issue why dont they somehow enlarge the clitoris

I would if anyone has tried to duplicate skin cells from our erectile tissue and grow a phallus made from our own that's scaled to a larger size. Seems like a more promising option than trying to wire something that doesn't belong to us to our body. If anyone was working on an idea like this, I'd definitely volunteer, but I can't imagine anyone will care enough soon.
