Hai peeps I'm Olivia but everyone calls me Olive. I'm not new to this site rather I'm returning with a new username after leaving several years ago due to a bad experience...

Im at a point in my life where I've just gotten out of some bad situations (thats a whole other story -.-) and Im really wanting to try and get back to my life as a girl (I'm male to female) I lived for over a year as a girl but circumstances presented themselves that forced me to digress.

Ive been told I pass pretty well, I actually have guys hit on me ALOT. Problem is the minute I open my mouth to speak. I have a deep voice... Like depending on how Im speaking we're talking James Earl Jones. I actually used to be voice actor and was generally hired to play villains if that gives you an idea. I also used to smoke like a chimney so that doesnt help :3

I guess what Im getting at is if there are any tips anyone can give me on to sound more feminine and fight my horrible Darth Vader tones?

From all I've read, it's just a matter of practice. All the tutorials I've seen say to use falsetto a lot to train the muscles at higher pitches. It's learning the feel of the vibration in "the head" rather than from the chest and the feeling of the adam's apple being squeezed up into the back of the throat. Then it's a matter of lowering the pitch down to a normal speaking level while retaining that "squeeze" and "head voice" which should result in a feminine voice. Most people have practiced this for months before becoming consistent and passable but there is no shortage of great girl voices coming from someone with a deep natural voice.
It's possible to train the vocal range to very impressive lengths. I've heard of sopranos being able to cover 6 octaves, which is ridiculous, but you should be able to train yourself up without too much trouble.

My natural voice is fairly deep but it doesn't sound like it's as deep as yours; I can do full-on death metal growling, though, so we aren't talking about an average level. Despite this, I am coming along. I have not been practicing for long but I have spent years practicing singing in general so I have good voice control.

What I've noticed, however, is that the average cis girl's voice isn't actually that high. I've been paying special attention to how cis women speak and it's more about being unbroken and speaking melodically than being high pitched.

Have you viewed any of the CandiFLA videos on YouTube?
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

Hi Olive! Your name reminds me of the children's show. It's cute. :)

For the voice you have training options or surgery.

YouTube videos seem to be popular. CandiFLA is good as mentioned but there is also Finding Your Female Voice by Andrea James. Both have somewhat different approaches.

You can hire a speech therapist and get some professional lessons. It's not cheap but many say it's worth it.

You can also do surgery. There is a lot of discussion in the voice therapy and surgery section of the forum. Some surgery carries more risk than others and it is not really cheap either.

Good luck!
