Hey ladies! Quick question. I have just received my HRT letter this past week. Yay! I believe that I have found a local doctor to go to now and get my prescription. However I am 22 and due to working two part time retail jobs, I do not have health insurance currently. So my question, do you have any clue how much the visit to the doctor will cost to get my prescription? I know it requires blood work which can be a little expensive. I'm sure I can call but I assume they will be a little weary of giving me the exact numbers. Thanks ahead of time!

ThAt depends on where you are. Out of pocket cost without insurance here (NYC) for the first visit would have been like $400. However if you find a place that does sliding scale billing you can get it for less.

You can always see if there is an LGBT group around where you live. They might be able to help you find a doctors office. I lucked up and found a free clinic for the LGBT community.  So all of my bloodwork and doctors visits are free for the under insured.  Just throwing it out there.  I do have to go to another state, but I live on the state line.

Five seconds later on Google I found this Gender Clinic http://www.rcdallas.org/what-we-do/health/nelson-tebedo-clinic/transgender-health in Dallas. Most major metro areas have one. I know nothing about them being from the NYC and/or the Washington/Baltimore regions

I had planned on joining the forums today anyway, but I saw this thread and thought I could help. I see my therapist and doctor in Dallas and actually just got my prescription today, paying out of pocket myself for everything. So, if you've not found a doctor yet, or are still looking, I'd recommend Patrick Daly. I booked my appointment over the phone and they told me it'd be no more than $320 for the initial visit and prescription. Today I went there and was surprised to find out that it was $70 cheaper, so $250 for the new patient fee and all of the required blood work. Stopped by a CVS on my way home, and a few minutes later had my first months worth of HRT. Total today I spent right at $265, for doctor's visit and hormones. So if you can get in to see Daly I'd recommend it. Here's a snippet of my receipt from today so you can see just what it was...
