I've been thinking a lot about my sexuality and gender recently, and I think I want to talk to a gender therapist. And maybe even talk to others in an LGBT-friendly group or environment.

The problem is I have no idea what options I have or how to continue from this point. I don't know of any LGBT-groups in my town, maybe there are some in the next town over. It would take quite a bit of effort getting there though, not to mention, suspicious. I haven't told anyone close to me, I'd rather talk to a professional or others that have been in my situation.

There is a therapist I could talk to, but I don't think they have a lot of experience or education in the field I'm in. Another alternative would be coming out to my sister for advice. She doesn't live at home anymore, but she is studying psychology and she's always been nice to me. She might be able to understand or at least give me advice. It's still quite hard for me to come out though, and I want to consider that plan B.

Does anybody know whom I should contact to talk to a gender therapist or other transgender people? I live in Sweden and I'm really afraid of getting a bad therapist who will say I'm wrong or will contact my family.
Thank you for any advice, I feel I really need somebody understanding to talk to.

Well you could simply ask someone lgbt related how the process is in your country, and maybe ask them for a referral.
Like making a phone call to the next lgbt center near you... or even a bigger one... asking a trans women group...
or asking a transgender helpline...
They might give you a referral, and it might be possible you can do online sessions.
You might even look for that, for counselors doing online sessions.

Concerning talking to others, talking to a counselor is supposed to be confidential, there should be no connection to your parents.
I'd suppose you do not need them for health insurance matters either.
