What to expect?

Salt Flats

I just started HRT last Thursday morning, and while I know it's crazy to expect any results after only a few days, I'm wondering exactly what I should be expecting and how soon. Currently I'm only on estrodiol, and my endo said that I'd see her again in after four weeks when we should be able to see some of the more noticeable effects. So, exactly what effects should I be expecting first? I'm 19 and so I'd imagine, well hope really, that I'll be lucky with exactly how effective hormones will be.

So, I mean, like what could I expect in the first few weeks I guess? Or since everyone is different, what are some of the most common things that happen first? I'm a little over three days on them right now and already emotionally I feel a lot better, though I suspect that's more from knowing that I've finally started.

Sore/enlarged nipples and liiiiiitle budding breasts! My libido has chilled out and that seems to have brought focus and calm.  Thats the only emotional change I've noticed.  Maybe also a slight lack of handling stress effectively (contrast with the statement above = weird). I'm 10 yrs older than you and thats after only 2 injections...

Well I'm on pills so I don't know how different it'd be from injections. How often are your injections though? Like, two weeks or so I'd assume?

Well that sounds fine by me. XD I think I'm just a little annoyed that there wasn't any instant results after taking the first pill. D:< Just have to be patient I suppose...

Well thanks for the info. ^_^ I guess I'll just have to wait a few weeks to see how it goes for me and if I need to talk to my doctor about the dose.

I remember when I took my first hormone pill I stood there like the chicken who'd crossed the road wondering what happens now.  Changes in mood came first for me along with the loss of the pressure of male libido which had always made me feel like I was going nuts.  I told my doctor that I felt like I'd come home after wandering lost in the wilderness for years.
After that came tender nipples and changes in my skin.  My hair became a lot nicer too.

Calmness after a week or so, loss of libido and unable to perform after about 3 ~ 4 months... Breasts tender after about 2 ~ 3 months, skin softened around 3 months, visible differences took a lot longer for me... But I didn't start till 50'ish.

I'm on Oral HRT FYI

You'll be heaps quicker as you are young, enjoy the changes, makes you more confident, I found too.

Everyone is different. I saw skin softening and scent change in a week. I also had bad insomnia.

Mid 30s here.

Well I'm nearing four full days of HRT so far, and I think my skin is noticeably softer than it was before. Time will tell though. I just hope whatever changes happen quickly.

When exactly did you all start to experience breast growth? Because that's one of the things I'm obviously more eager to have happen...

Don't!

I mean, hope it goes quickly enough but not too quickly. I am a solid B cup now (34B) but I have stretch marks. It's also very hard to hide and I really can't pass for a guy in too many places now, and I'm only 3.5 months in!

But anyway you can't do much about it, it's mostly genetics anyway. My family is well endowed so I may be too.

It varies for a lot of people but about a month is when you'll probably start to feel/see buds.

Well I mean, not like overnight I guess. XD Just that I'd rather reach a point I'm happy with fairly quickly. :/

I'm not looking to pass as a guy for much longer. My therapist says she's surprised that I do as is, and I'm all too often referred to as her/she by people in public before they do a double take. My only problem with passing and going full time as soon as I can is that I live in the bible belt and most people aren't too accepting about things.

Well my older sister is on the larger side of things...so hopefully that'll be good news for me.

Softening skin was the first noticeable thing for me, after about a month-ish if I'm remembering correctly...

Breast growth started for me around 3 months in.  It began as what felt like a marble or something under my nipples and just grew from there...  I started at low dose Estradiol and T Blockers and was gradually stepped up at 1, 3 and 6 months in to get to my current dose.

I'm 42 btw, started HRT at 41.

One more thing, I recently caught myself checking out a guys ass as he walked by - which is new,,, and undoubtedly topically relevant

Let's be real.

It will test your patience.
It will test your mental limits.
It is hard work.
It is slow and gradual.
It will likely cause a lot of tears.

but,

The reward of finding and being oneself cannot be described with words.

Be careful what you wish for. Some are luckier than others. Just relax and put your seatbelt on and enjoy...

I needed to drink more, felt lethargic, within weeks couldn't lift the weights I used to.

Look up in the search bar up top for hints on what to wear if you aren't going to come out for a while...as changes may sneak up and be more noticeable than you realise.in complete opposite to this try having at least one person close to you to rebound off, to ask if what you may be seeing is just you,or not as noticeable.

Well I'm out to my sister and brother-in-law at least, and they've been super supportive. So I'm not too worried about that. With my mom, well...time will tell. I'm not going to write her off, but I do think it'll take her a while to come around when I finally tell her. Which will be shortly after I move out, seeing as I still live with her.

But, on a more positive note, I have noticed some changes already! Namely skin is softer and my (there seriously needs to be a better, non-medical, word for this) nipples have well...changed. XD Noticing that was enough to calm my "what if it's not working for me???" feeling I was having, so I think I'm good now.

So yeah, I think I've finally gotten past the "OMG HURRY UP" bit now that I've seen something at least.

Hm...Well I've never really been attracted to guys, so that would be something new for me to experience...Is that something that commonly happens? Assuming someone wasn't beforehand?

No! I'm sorry!! Hrt most likely will not affect your sexuality. Tho I would encourage keeping an open mind about the possibilities that lie ahead. You may change in ways you could not have ever foreseen! If for no other reason than you are still really young. My post was a (not entirely flippant) remark about the way my already established attraction to men seems to be changing. Feel me?

Hehe, yeah. XD I didn't mean it in a negative way or anything, wasn't even really concerned. I'm pretty open minded about that, and yeah I've thought about it before. But I mean, just never been attracted to any guys. XD Might just be because none have been my type for all I know. Just was wondering if it was something that might happen in the future. Who knows though, it'd be something new for sure.

I'm not living full time (barely part time if I'm honest! - waiting for the changes, just like you) so I present as a typical heterosexual dude. Which is a big part of me. I'll check out girls all day long, openly, not exactly respectfully, etc.  When it comes to guys, that's expressed more in fantasy, in my mind, in my home! - just has never found an outlet socially in Real Life - and it's felt most often from my femme side.  It's mostly a sexual thing tho I have been attracted to a few guys for the people they are.  SO *** this little thing I caught myself doing, as trivial as it may be, shows me how I'm changing as my fem urges and instincts take root. The more power and freedom I give them ('her', really just ME) to explore and interact in the world - to just BE, the more I'm noticing. A different smile, a unique sense of style, a new perspective on my art... and certainly new ways of expressing my sexuality.

As much as I'm like "yay, titties!" these little changes excite me as much or more.
