Hi Marie,
Thank you for sharing all your pictures! I was wondering did you see any changes in shape or function in your eyes
after the midfacelift?
For me that is what i am worried about for a midfacelift because the skin around the eyes is so delicate.
Hi there,
Perhaps I can help. I had my surgery on the same day as Marie. In fact, according to my husband, we were in the recovery room at the same time, but I knew nothing of that at the time. I met Marie briefly the next morning when the nurse drove us back to our apartments.
Anyway, I had a 4½-hour operation which included Macslift surgery and necklift, upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, tarsal strip and canthopexy. Regarding your question about the eyes, it has only be less than four weeks since surgery so it is too early to see the final result, but I should think twice about driving soon after surgery. The stitches are quite close to the eyes and, in my case, I found that my eye shapes were slightly distorted and, as a result, my glasses were unable to bring things into sharp enough focus to enable me to drive safely. A week or so later short drives were possible but I found that even a 20-mile round trip left me feeling really tired. That might be my age and younger girls might cope a lot better.
Regarding the delicate skin around the eyes, Dr Bart knows what he is doing and each eye had five very fine stitches very close to the eye and a loop stitch top and bottom of each eye. Dr Bart removes these stitches a week after surgery. However, in my case I returned to the UK five days after surgery and made an appointment for two days later with a nurse at my local GP's surgery to remove the 10 tiny stitches. Dr Bart told me that I could remove the four looped stitches myself which I did before going to see the nurse. You just grip the loop between finger and thumb and gently pull. They easily come out and I experienced no pain.
Today is Tuesday and I will be four weeks post surgery on Thursday and can go out with just a little makeup to cover what is now a tiny amount of bruising.
In Antwerp we stayed at the Ambassador Suites which proved ideal for my needs with a good shower-room and well lit mirrored wall cupboard enabling you to see your face from different angles. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
Carol
