In general the safe alcohol level for women on HRT is the same as for ciswomen. No more than one glass of wine or its equivalent a day.

You will find you do not process alcohol as quickly as men and you will get inebriated quicker so be careful both for your health and your general safety.

My GP recommends avoiding alcohol because HRT adds a large strain on the liver (at least with Estradiol tablets).  There might be a risk of jaundice or liver failure if you drink a large amount of alcohol while also on HRT, but I'm sure some is OK.

For me it was funny.  About 1 month into HRT I lost any desire to drink anyway (not that I was a big fan of alcohol before that).  But then I started getting cravings for spicy food, when before I couldn't tolerate spice at all.  So here I am, loving virgin bloody mary's for the first time in my life. :)

I can vouch for Cindy's comment on lower alcohol tolerances... ahem  :-\

My understanding was that HRT and Alcohol don't mix, especially orally taken as it reduces the HRT effects... and as mfox has noted.

I had that spice craving. I was on another medicine for high blood pressure and that and the spiro were pushing it too low. My PCP D/Ced the other med to correct that and the craving went away, too.
April 22, 2015, the day of my first face to face pass in gender neutral clothes and no makeup. It may be months to the next one, but I'm good with that!

Being transgender is just a phase. It hardly ever starts before conception and always ends promptly at death.

Jeez I get drunk so easy now. No wonder.

I'm no stranger to booze. Cindy is so right with HRT your tolerance really drops. Not just my perception. My wife often says now "I cannot drink". A glass of wine I am buzzed and then some

I wonder if the lower tolerance is a sign that the liver isn't coping well (keeping up) with the added strain?

I haven't noticed any change to my desire for or perceptible tolerance of alcohol. Today I'm going out for too much beer and a curry. What actually does disappoint me is that I read I may be less prone to sweating following hrt but unfortunately this is not the case. Curry still makes my face gush like Niagra Falls; but it is so worth it........... Pakora, chili sauce, spiced onions, chicken tikka all hissing and spitting on the way to the table served with medium curry sauce, rice, salad and a nan the size of a duvet. It will indeed be a good Friday. I have eaten literally nothing for 19 hours in anticipation, and I still have two hours to go!

My gosh I went from drinking an insane amount of beer a day to now getting buzzed after a beer or two or a single glass of wine. I am also losing my desire for alcohol altogether. As a female the last thing I would do now is go out at night to a bar and have drinks given my low tolerance now lol...
