I had a consult with Dr. Spiegel (Skype) and Dr. Zukowski (in person).

Dr. S was quick and told me about the procedure. His estimate for jaw reduction surgery was $9,325. (With a flight and room, it would be about $10,300 for me.)

Dr Z was $11,000+ something, but after I told him Dr. S was cheaper, he immediately gave me a "discount" and put it down for a specific 11k. He then went on a long tirade against Dr. S's surgery style. Dr. Z explained everything to me and I enjoyed our meeting. However, I did not like how he was insisting I get parts of the masseter muscle removed. It is just NOT necessary on my face and quite frankly, it freaks me out. I have a heavy mandible (bone), not heavy on the muscle protrusion. I am unsure if he meant only taking off the bottom portion of the masseter muscle since there will be bone removed or if he thinks my face is too wide. I have not received the estimate written out yet, but I assume that is why the surgery was considerably more than Dr. S because of little add ons like this.

I liked Dr. Z because he said he'd do a neck tightening procedure which Dr. S will not include for the 9k price. Dr. Z said Dr. S can not shave down the chin vertically (my biggest issue) due to his style of surgery of going inside the mouth. Although, I don't understand why Dr. Z is against x-rays and other means of looking at the skull. Dr. S said x-rays and the like will be part of the plan for safety reasons.

Can anyone share their estimates for the jaw surgery alone for Dr. Z? In my gut, I feel like I am being cheated since that is the only surgery I am asking for and he gave me a discount once I mentioned he was more expensive than Dr. S.

I am torn.

I'm starting to look into jaw surgery, and Dr. Z is on my list of possibles, I went to his website today, and I filled out the consultation form, but when I clicked the send button, I kept getting an error message telling me that I entered the security code wrong, and it kept rejecting my entry several times, before I decided to give up. Did you have a similar problem? Also, did Dr. Z tell you that neck tightening is included in the jaw surgery price? 

Personally, I'd avoid anyone who isn't going to do pre-surgical imaging..

That's a good point Kelly, but I'm really impressed by the results I have seen, so I think that he is worth considering.

I simply emailed them on this listed email contactus at mlzukowskiffs dot com and left my phone number, which they later called to set up a consultation. Yes, the neck tightening was a part of the price.


Kelly, that scares (and confuses me) too. He showed me the surgical tools he uses and I don't feel 100% comfortable knowing they will be by nerves he doesn't know the placement of. Yes, I know major nerves will be in the same area on humans, but still.. not 100%.

I should add, he does incisions right by the chin and by the ear, if I remember correctly. He takes a long tool and slides it along your jawline.

did you try to run the page on another web navigator, ie Google Chrome instead of IE ?

I had my chin and Adams apple done by Dr. Z years back.  I was never happy with the results, it was bulbous, square, uneven and when I smiled if dented in May areas.  I would get regular botox injections into my chin to even it out.  I recently had it redone by Dr. S and this time had my jaw bone contoured as well.  Honestly it is too soon to see the results, the soft tissue looks a little heavier on one side when I smile, and the incisons in my mouth still fell very tight, he told me this will all heal properly over time.  The recovery is a long one.  Who is better, I think it depends on the face before hand, and it's always a gamble.  I have seen great work from both doctors and also poor work done by both.  I can say I wasn't happy with my results from Dr. Z, and it is too soon to say if I am happy with the results from Dr. S.

Danielle I second that!!!! I feel it is important for girls to realize that when you go into any surgery, whatever it may be it is a roll of the dice. I have seen mixed results across the board from many surgeons. It is also important to note that we all have different starting points, you shouldn't go into FFS expecting to perfectly achieve this ideal of femininity you have created. I elected to go to Dr. O mainly because I felt that his Cosmetic results were consistent and cosmetically pleasing. I am very happy with my results but that is not to say that other patients of his were,it is also important to note that surgery carries risk and sometimes revisions may be desired.
