OK this is aimed at those who need to wear a Wig and go hiking. Like me!
Not only do i like to go hiking my circumstances take me into some quite hot, dusty and windy environments. Obviously not the situation for your best or most expensive wig. Then theres the issue of heat. I'm wondering if anyone else has come up with any innovative solutions to this dilemma?

So far the best that I've come up with is to get a long scarf and wrap it around the head much like someone who had very short hair might do or had lost hair as a result of medical conditions etc. Not a perfect solution but seems to work somewhat although I probably come accoss as a woman with virtually no hair underneath. 

How have you handled this scenario? Ideas?

I am in this boat because I live in Southern California and there are lots of places here to hike and I like to hike. The best ideas I've come up with is to have an old wig that you only use to hike in, and put the back into a pony tail to allow air to flow and keep it out of your face.  And of course plan on washing it when you get back home. Other than those ideas I got nothing lol....

I think a sun hat with a drawstring would look good and keep everything in place, and as a bonus it would keep the sun off your face too?

Last time I went hiking I got a scrunchee and it wasn't ideal to say the least.

Allow me to suggest an alternative?

If you have moderate to severe hair loss that cannot be surgically corrected, have you considered integrated, bonded hair systems?

They are not exactly wigs. You can apply them yourself or have them professionally applied. You wear the hair system constantly, sleep in it, shower in it, swim in it, bike in it, exercise in it, etc. The hair systems stay bonded to the scalp for anywhere from 2-6 weeks depending on type and bonding method. It won't come off like a wig, can't be pulled off easily like a wig, and look tremendously natural.

My own hair loss is very severe (from chemotherapy mostly 19 years ago) and while I've had a small amount of regrowth from HRT, it will never be enough to cover anything. So I talked to a hair restoration surgeon and he says I have probably 3000 or so good grafts that he can use, but I need close to 10,000 to rebuild a full natural hair system. So that's just feasible. However, what he did recommend, is after I complete FFS, I come back and we rebuild my temples to have a proper female temple point and thickness and repair around the edges a bit, leaving the top area still super thin. Then I would go to a salon that specializes in integrated, bonded hair systems for women who have had catastrophic hair loss due to medical reasons. They would create, apply and bond a hair system for me, then integrate my own remaining hair with that, and optionally integrate bonded extensions to add density if needed.

I'll have to price it out and all but it does look tempting, especially if I can handle applying the bonding myself every few weeks.

I don't go to the wilderness often, but I take very long walks around my town several times a week. I have below shoulder-length hair and always wear a baseball cap with a ponytail. This is good protection from sun and wind. My hair is getting pretty thin on top and pretty much overall, so hairpieces and wigs are my future. I sometimes wear a Halo loop extension piece to help fill my back and ponytail area.

While a cap is preferable to me most of the time, I think if I wanted to just wear a wig while on a walk I might wear one of those plastic clip headbands you wear ear-to-ear as extra security.
