Maybe gender roles would not be important, but I think there would still be gender identity. Gender identity comes from within, not from some external source.

I would like to think that I am already who I am now regardless of external pressures. Maybe you mean you would be free to act as who you are?

LOL, well I've done the whole "transcend the world" thing. Didn't care for it much. It just isn't NEARLY as much fun as getting my hands dirty in the mud and fun of this wonderfully wacky world.

I've come to find that those who "transcend" it... and those who are "lost" in it... really aren't that different. Now, if you can do BOTH...

Everything I'm doing... ALL of it... is so that I CAN be "affected by it," letting it touch me as deeply as possible. I want to taste every last drop this world will offer me.

Maybe to some degree most of us do both ("transcend the world" and "be
lost in it").  I have experienced a lot of personal growth in the last 2 yrs
and am now seeing a gender counselor.  Having been out dressed in public
just a handful of times, I am now trying to switch from thinking, "Am I being
read?" to "I'm doing something I would normally do en homme,  but
doing it as a woman.  I have a right to be here (while acting respectfully),
so ultimately it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks."

This means that as I walk into a supermarket, I don't watch everyone to
see how they regard me ("transcending the world"), but I keep my chin up,
take it all in, smile at people, seek help in cosmetics; and when the bag boy
says "how are you today," I say (as I normally would) "I'm fine -- how are
you?"  ("be lost in [the world].")  This is all very simple and basic, but it's a
foundation on which to build so that I too can let the world "touch me as
deeply as possible," and "taste every last drop the world will offer me."

Well, I'm currently in a state where the opinions of others matter not to me anymore, astral projection is a form of escape for me, however still not exactly enough, and people usually think I'm insane until I prove some stuff to them, which is getting rather annoying honestly, thus I care less and less each day.

To live in this world and never be affected by it seems a bit pointless at best.  It's one thing to live life so that we are not destroyed by other's hostility towards us.  That I applaud.  But there is a flip side.  If we are totally disassociated from the world, we miss the love others have for us and we miss having meaningful relationships.  Without those things, life, IMHO is not worth living.  We also miss the chance to make this world a better place.  I, for one, am not interested in merely being a consumer of Oxygen and a drain on the universe.  Though I may fail, I hope to leave my world better for having been here.

Well, I am interested in all things magic, and can provide help to a certain extend, however yes, you are mostly right, one of the reasons I do not fear death.

Well, if the opinions of others don't matter to you, you have nothing to worry about then, correct?  To each, their own.  But as Sarah Louise has pointed out, like it or not, we are still part of this world.  Oh, now that is just too bad!

Oh yes, I forgot to mention, I don't believe in anything "paranormal", but again that's just me!

I realize that I am a part of this world and I want to leave here after having earned the title of "mensch."

The group, Chicago," sang a song called "Dialogue."  I keep these likes in my heart:

            Will you try to change things with the power that you have,
            With the power of a million new ideas?

As Kristi feels, so do I.  Whatever I do to make this world a better place for my brothers and sisters on these message boards and others like them in the town where I live, I keep that to myself.  I would much prefer to do good then fade into the night.

It is patently clear that Sarah Louise is right about being a part of this world.  Do as you will, you will be here until you go to another dimension, or so *I* believe.  While I'm here I will do what I can to end gender discrimination while loving my gender identity.  It took me 51 years to claim it and I'll not hide it for anyone.

Gender stereotyping about makes me sick.  Sadly, I believe to some extent that they are a self-fulfilling prophecy.  Read Ms. Magazine to see the monthly collection of advertising that is offensive to women who don't live in the stereotype.

If believe that although I am spirit being and not of this world, I must live in this world until my work here, whatever that may be, is completed.
