hey all, brody here, just wondering what yall think, I am starting T in july of this year but it will be quite a wait for me to get top surgery and I have lets say a large chest, LARGE, and yes I do wear a binder always but its not all that flattering to my figure because of my size.  so the question I had was if I should start the T and just roll with it or wait?> my main thought is start T to get further ahead, you know? so yeah any comment or whatever would be helpful. thanks a bunch. cheers. :-\

It's up to you. Being on T doesn't make a difference with a good surgeon's results. If you are very overweight you might want to get more healthy though.

If you're ready and have the option, why would you wait? It makes no difference on surgery either way.

I would start T just to get started. After I finally accepted myself for who I am. I had waited on T bc I live in Montana and didn't realize I had Planned Parenthood who had been doing HRT for transgenders for 7 years. I didn't realize this til I was living here for 1 and 1/2 years already. I was kicking myself for not finding out sooner because I had been depressed on the fact that I haven't been able to start my transition. I know its going to be a while before i can get top surgery which is a bummer but I have my hysterectomy schedule for may which I can get covered by insurance. After that of course is when I'll be saving for top surgery. Since that pretty much out of pocket or financing which .. im trying to get my current debt under control first before i add another expensive item to my list of debts. But it feels great to finally be moving towards my goals. I am definitely not nearly depressed as I was.

I was on T 3 years before i had top surgery but i dont think it makes a difference

T doesnt shrink your chest on its own especially if u are large chested

if u lose a lot of weight (fat) and gain a lot of muscle your breasts might look SLIGHTLY smaller.....but not enough to make a difference

If you are waiting because u think T changes will effect your chest dont hold your breath

Working out, losing weight (fat) and gaining muscle will help you WAYYYY more than T

Also it's taking a risk because while some guys lose weight on T.....there are just as many who GAIN weight on T

Pre-T i was 127 lbs.....Now im 180

I didn't eat anymore than i usually did so it wasnt an appetite issue

T is an anabolic steroid which can cause weight gain easily

I wasn't holding it open for you, who holds the door open for a man?!?

Well I thought it was a nice gesture....BUT I GUESS I WAS WRONG!!!!!

The only reason I was on T 3 years before top surgery was because my psychiatrist was not willing to write the letter of approval for top surgery yet.

I have a pre-existing mental illness that interfered with getting approval when i needed it

It wasn't until 3 years on T he agreed to write the letter of approval to my chosen surgeon

and as soon as he did i called Dr. Garramone's office right away to set up a consultation and date for my surgery

If he had given me approval for top surgery before testosterone I would have jumped on the opportunity.

I came out as transgender when i was 10 years old.....before i was old enough for anything to be done at all.

wkly1269, good to hear you are able to get your hystor covered by insurance.  Are you able to get one of the procedure where you only have a few little scar afterwards?  Are you having your ovaries taken too?
  •

wkly1269

Yeah it is going to be done laprascopically through the vagina. Doctor says i will just have two very small incisions. I have decided to take my ovaries as well. Not gonna use them so why keep them. my pre op appointment is on the 21st of this month so I know i will get more info then.

I will get mine removed too when I have mine.  They only can cause problems later.
