So I got a letter from the hm passport office saying that because my passport is assigned to male and they cannot change it to female unless I can give evidence that the changes will be permanent .

It says I need to go to my Dr   do you know if they willbgive me a letter to get this sorted .
I told my mum and usually she said I cannot to I've had the change . anyone know more details ? If I have to do anything els or if its straight for word

Yes the uk passport do need a letter stating the change is permanent I got one from Curtis when I was seeing him simple thing to do is ask your gp to see if they would do it.

Either your GP or doctor at the GIC can write it. Basically it just has to say that you are being treated for transexualism and that the change "is likely to be permanent" Apart from that its really easy. It took me just 10 days and new passport with new name/gender    Of course that was in the winter so maybe a bit longer with the holiday rush etc?

So you can't just send a copy of your gender reconignition certificate to the passport office? Sorry if this off topic, just curious as I'm slso in the UK.

Yes  you can. The passport office page has sothing to say about here.
All the advice given above applies to people changing their passport for the first time.

See the section at top of page 3 :
"valid British passport in your birth gender but wish to apply for a new one in an acquired gender"

Hiya all

Having gone through this process recently, it's not particularly challenging.  The online documentation is a bit vague, and I had the "customer service" people at HM Passport Office helpline interpret it really badly.  A Gender Recognition Certificate is acceptable, as is a letter stating that you have changed gender and that it is likely to be permanent. 

Any other documentation showing that you're under treatment, or have had surgery of some kind is useful, but not vital.

Just one thing:  this letter must come from a doctor or a registered medical specialist.  Psychologists are not considered an appropriate authority.

The fast-track service will get you a new passport in 10 days.

I literally just got mine done. I went to the GP and said Ive been transitioning to male and the passport office needs you to clarify that. There is a template online which says something like:

I, Dr .... am treating (your name) for GID. They have been transitioning for x years and have shown no desire to change back. They have sound of mind and fit to fly.
Signed Dr .....

Get them to sign it, then fill out the passport form with your new name and put in your old passport and deed poll and the gp letter and you're good to go. Just be aware that the doctor's may charge you for this letter, mine was £16. And the passport took 2-3 extra weeks to come because it's filed under unusual circumstances and they review each one on a case by case basis.

Its really very very easy. Mine took ten days and that was just the regular service. The online info explains it all (but just be sure you read the right section since it covers all scenarios)

Really all you need is:

1. A new passport application (it's classed as this even if you've already got once because you are changing your appearance/gender)

2. Photographs which have to be counter signed by a responsible person who knows you as in a "new" application.

3 Letter from either GP or Doctor at GIC.  Mine essentially said:

"I confirm that XXXX is under my care for mtf transexualism and this change is likely to be permanent. I support her application for a new passport in her new name and gender" 

4. Name change document, either Statutory Declaration or Deed Pole

5. Old passport and of course £75.

Thats all there is to it

Ok i Just phoned to see a Dr to get this letter the resepshanist said they won't give me a letter unless they have been seeing me for a at least a year
But I've never had a regulate as they wouldn't give me one
I need that letter 
I duno what to to now as I don't have anyone els other thangp if I cannot get this letter I cannot change my passport and also loose the £80 I played for it witch has been taken already

If youve been seeing a transgender therapist they can sign for you. Surely somewhere/someone knows you've been transitioning. (It has to have been for at least 6months usually 1.5yrs-2yrs though) If youve told your GP to refer you then that counts, as it is assumed you would begin your real life experience almost immediately (well it did for me)

Hmmm ok if when you ask for a referal counts to the time the go should give me the letter regardless of the person weighting it is that correct
