hi everyone,

my name's kit, and i'm struggling with a lot of gender issues right now. i've thought myself to death over my gender identity for years and years and still haven't come up with any answers. i'm female-assigned and have quite a lot of body dysphoria that i don't know how to deal with. i don't know if transition (to what?) is right for me or not.

i've read susan's for quite a while and finally decided to join today to see what advice you all have and to get more support, and maybe share a thing or two.

You could have a look here for a few thoughts that might help you:
https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,185096.msg1646042.html#msg1646042

You could think about a good gender therapist... not a gatekeeper but someone to help you find out what you need... if you feel they are not supportive you could look for another...

And you don't have to feel male all the time.
A question would be would you prefer a more male body to be more happy ?

Its a spectrum, and it might take some time to find out where you are comfortable.

I'd say take the time you need, but keep at it.

And you might keep asking questions and writing about it, sometimes alone writing helps.

hugs

thanks for the welcome, everyone! i was so scared to finally join this forum that i didn't come back to read the replies, lol.

i have discussed gender with my current therapist, but he's not a specialist and i think he's kind of confused by the whole thing. i've been thinking about maybe seeing a gender therapist, but i'm taking it slow for now.

A very good idea to take it slow. We have to walk before we can run. I'm glad you came back and welcome to Susans. Your among friends now. You would probably benefit more from a gender therapist who has a better understanding of these issues. I look forward to seeing you around the site. Good luck and hugs

Hey Kit,

I'm glad you joined and came back here :). We don't bite, most of the time anyway :-P

Seeing a gender therapist could be helpful. If you get along well with your current therapist, it wouldn't necessarily mean having to switch therapists altogether. But having a few sessions with a specialist probably couldn't hurt.

My therapist isn't a gender specialist either (I started seeing him before I had an idea I was trans*). When it finally clicked for me that I identify as male, I went to see a gender therapist just to find out how to proceed and what to watch out for; also, to have a plan B if things didn't work out with my regular therapist. Fortunately, they did and I think I may not need my plan B for the time being.

Hi Kit, welcome to Susan's Place! I'm from Boston. If you've exhausted yourself thinking it out without an answer, the therapist is a good idea. See you around the site!

Hugs, Devlyn
