We have been using the "Susan's" girl at the top of this web site for 20 years. Some people feel that it projects the wrong image for the site, and  I can understand their concerns. However, I would be reluctant to give up that history unless we have something absolutely amazing to replace it with.

With that being said, I am going to give all the graphic designers out there a chance to come up with an alternative, or replacement logo for the site.

So if you are interested in participating, create a logo for the site; and send it to me via email by May 15th 2015. The header area for the logo is a maximum of 1128x228. However, it can be smaller if needed

Your submissions should include the full resolution PSD or Illustrator files used to create the logo complete with all of the layers used in its creation intact.

Please include with a 72dpi and a 300DPI+ flattened version attached to the email.  A much appreciated bonus would be to also include a twitter header, and a facebook header for the logo as well.

Do not post your submissions to the forums, instead send them directly to me at susan@susans.org with the subject "logo contest".

I will pick the ones that I like, and will share them with the members for their opinions.  If your image is selected, I will find a suitable reward of my choosing for the winners.

Please be aware that by submitting an entry, you are giving up all rights to the logo in question. All submitted logos become the sole property of this web site.

How about we just flip her so she's looking the other direction? Pinup art is as American as apple pie. I know you're going to say we're an international site, but it was the machines of war clad with images like her that preserved freedom worldwide. I would guess most of her detractors are too young to remember that.

Susan, I`m so glad you`re considering changing the recumbent-lady as `site logo.
As innocent as that image may be, it does seem to suggest 'something' of the unseemly (for want of a better phrase: "titillating content here").....and with regards to our community, that`s something that we all know, definitely isn`t vested or intended.

It is a reason I know for certain, that an acquaintance and prospective forum user, whom has visited once and has been put-off from returning, by the apparent-size and persistence of the logo and text, as she browsed; fearing the attention of others nearby, would be drawn to take notice.

I hope your request for artistic contributions, brings from others {surely much more able than I} many new design suggestions for you to consider.

Susan it's your site so never feel pressured to change anything just because of public opinion. Can I see where people who have a problem with it are coming from yes, but it doesn't bother me at all. I just move right on down into the forums and news. Devyln, I had totally forgot about that fact, but then I didn't grow up during those years either so being as young as I am we only have the news, books, and other sources that look back into those times and I suppose it's not something enjoy telling people about generally. Susan, I'm literally checking into get surgery today, and won't be able to participate. But I imagine it would be a good idea to clarify whether the typography of the site name should be included. I imagine so?

I admire your ability to be both responsive and adaptive to our changing social world.  We can respect that all of us may view an art piece differently and i understand a personal preference with historical context.  Still, as others have noted, she is also a dated caricature perhaps more evocative of WWII bombers and suggestive sexuality.  You have a lot of talented people on site and I look forward to the logos you will share with us.

I haven't liked to say anything, because this is your site and I respect that, but as a transgender man it's hard for me not to feel somewhat excluded by the current logo. I understand that it's meant to be a bit of a spoof, but it presents a body image which stirs up unpleasant emotions for me.

With all the talent here, I'll look forward to seeing wonderful new designs!

I can understand the desire for something more gender neutral. I'll put it out there right now that I'd buy a Susan's Girl badge for my avatar if she's phased out. Name your price, Susan.

how about a composite image retaining part of the "Susan Girl", maybe adding a "Susan Guy", a "Susan Androgyne", stuff like that. There's something modern and groovy that can be done while retaining part of the old logo.

The typography restriction is, it has to look professional, if i don't like the logo it won't be considered.

Just a quick suggestion for any graphic artists, Susan has started project phoenix so maybe the fabled firebird would make a good gender neutral logo. I won't be attempting this as I can't even draw a stick person

I'm firmly in Devlyns camp with the current logo, I like it due to the feel of airplane nose art

Actually, I really like the phoenix idea.  My spirit animal is actually the butterfly, but I'm thinking that might be a bit femme for the guys here.  The phoenix implies all sorts of general badassery.

I'm flattered that you think that about me.  I guess if you really wanted to, you could use a photo of me.  But honestly, I'm not that good looking and I don't think I'm really all that inspiring or badass.  But it's flattering to hear people wanting to use ThePhoenix as a logo! 

(I just love it that it is "Project Phoenix".  Can't resist enjoying the name a bit.  Even though I know it has nothing to do with me.).
