Hello everyone! This topic is about the prospects of pregnancy. Ibwas curious if anyone who's anything about uterus transplants for MTFs. Is it even available or is science close to having such a thing? Thanks :)

Hi,

As far as I know, it's a theoretical possibility that is being researched on by some experts, which means it will take at least decades before being accepted as a feasible procedure in a commercial or insurance environment, if it is indeed possible at all.

Damn I really hope it is a possibility soon! I would love to be a mom :)

Probably not within the next few years. If you want to be a mom you'll have to adopt or find a surrogate.

Oh I plan to! But it still would be nice tho :)

Based on all I've seen with my personal experience with fertility treatment, I don't believe it is impossible. It will be difficult and take some people willing to do the research.

Actually it is very close to already happening. Nine women have received full uterus transplants and the first child was born healthy just recently. So there is hope. Here is a link to the article from Science Daily.

According to a Dr. Simon Longstaff of the St. James Ethics Centre, yes it is possible for someone born male to carry a fetus full term but they would have to have the hormonal nature of a woman. Honestly he seems to be quite, how to put this delicately gender role biased (i.e. saying that doing so would strip men of their intrinsic dignity) in this interview that he gave about the uterus transplants coming to  Australia in 2016. You are very much welcome Chloe.  I found it interesting myself, even though it is possible at the moment the success rate is 3 out of 9 so far do to rejection. It is also experimental and therefore very expensive. But with how fast medical technology advances I would say within the next 10 years maybe sooner it will be more common place. Or at least I hope so.

Hi Chloe,

While the technology for not only a uterus transplant but all of the supportive physiology as well is not there, and likely won't be for many years, there are still many other options for having kids, genetic or otherwise.  I completely empathize with you as I also want a family (see multiple posts of mine agonizing over the ticking clock), and plan to have kids (adopted or genetic).

Anyway, I just wanted to reassure you that you can totally be a mom even without this currently unavailable technology. ^_^
