So, Just had my 1 year RLE psych evaluation to get a lettre of recommendation written up for surgery. Was all fine and dandy that day and felt fine, but now as the days continue i find myself looking back at the appt andwondering when I'll hear back from them? what the letter will say? will I get approved for surgery?
I had a bad episode of depression (first time ever) back in february and of course that came up and now i'm wondering if it will hinder my chances..... They want to consult with the counselor I saw at the time so now i also have to wait for them to get into contact with that counselor.
I just hate not knowing whats going on, and not knowing always makes me nervous

Hugs. I know the waiting game is never fun Sapphire. Have you tried contacting them to get an update on your case. I know anytime that I have a concern regarding something I look to talk to them directly and find out what is going on. This way if you need another appointment or they need more information you can more directly help your case in regards to getting your letter. Good luck and hugs.

I don't see how a bout of depression could warrant hindering the process considering how having the process delayed would likely trigger depression.
I hear what you're saying about the waiting being awfull, it took 5 months for the funding to be approved for me to just see someone at a gender clinic, those were the longest 5 months ever!!

Call them. Light a fire under them. They won't act until you make them.

Health professionals are in the business of diagnosing and treating conditions. They are not (generally) in the business of writing letters, so there is no process that ensures letters like this get written. Unless you keep after them, it's possible the need for a letter will be forgotten.

Also, there are many providers that practice gatekeeping. A couple years ago I had a psychologist deny me a surgery letter because I was still living with my ex while we argued about how we split things up. I was shocked since my own therapist whom I trust implicitly told me that he wouldn't give me a hard time. So have a plan B in case they come up with some whacky reason to refuse you a letter.

Depression is NOT a reason to refuse a letter IMO. The only reason should be that you are not competent to decide what you need. That is an assessment that no psychologist should ever make lightly, and they need to be prepared to back up their claim. Please do not accept anything less.

Actually this group of people are really good at what they do for trans patients. I had went to them for hormones a just over a year ago, and after one appt i had already been told a letter would be written up for me to start. Had the letter about a week and a half later.

My issue with this appt was that i couldn't really read the person I was seeing this time and was just nervous about them wasnting to confer with the counselor i had seen. I'm just a very impatient person when it comes to things I have no control over but i'm sure the letter will come soon, hasn't even been a week yet, so I can hold out for a little longer.

But of course, because of all this being on my mind my dysphoria has been at an all time high, just trying to get through the days right now.
