This happens more and more lately. People gender me as female, guys are extra-nice to me, and the attendant at the gas station even asked me if I knew how to operate a gas pump. While that last one is terribly sexist, like off-the-deep-end sexist, I'm stoked that I "pass" more and more!

PS: I'm 32 and have been on hormones for a year and a half. I also have a very square jawline. So if you think it's too late for you at 21, let this be some inspiration!

I get asked that because I have jersey plates on my car. :p

Congrats on the passing!

As someone who hasn't started HRT yet, at 33 you give me lots of hope. Fortunately for me I feel that my face isn't overtly masculine. Just some brow bossing and an adam's apple that will need to be addressed.

I needed to get a tube put in a lawn tractor tire today, I dropped it off at the tire place and asked if they needed my name and he said no and to come back in two hours to pick it up. When I went back there was a different man at the counter and he asked for my name as I was explaining that the other clerk didn't ask for it the original guy I dropped it off with came in and said I will help her. He then smiled at me and told me there was no charge.
I'm 56 years old full time and pre HRT and I get addressed by the correct gender most of the time. I don't think I look particularly feminine. When I told my wife in the car that it didn't cost anything to get fixed and was probably because I am a woman, she said it had more to do with the fact that I make eye contact with people and smile more now. I think more people gender me correctly because of my attitude, being more at peace with myself, and just a being much happier person.

Yeah.  That's not passing privilege, that's female privilege.  FtM's who pass totally won't get that....

Thanks for the encouragement Mugwort!  I hope above hope that even a little shred of that will be true for me after some time on hrt. those little things are fun to enjoy vicariously anyway, for now. ::)

You're really sweet. I appreciate the encouragement wherever I can get it.

I'm glad I can make people feel good about themselves.  :-*

Last night I was hanging out with a close friend I hadn't seen in a while. And when we had seen each other in the past year or so, it involved sitting around and watching TV, which is a bore.

Anyway, we were walking back to his house from a day with a couple other friends. It was just us two at this point. I was explaining to him how I'd been gaining passing privilege lately, but he didn't quite understand what I meant.

We stopped for a piece of pizza. When the guy gave me my slice, he said, "Here ya go, babe." After we walked out of earshot from the pizza stand, I pointed out to my friend how the pizza guy just saw me as some chick.

Okay, I'm done bragging! Personally, if I were in the situation of constantly getting clocked, I would get depressed hearing stories like this. And sometimes I still do! I don't want to do this to anybody. If anybody reading this feels that way, I want you to know that it's within you, two. Attitude, inner femininity, your voice, and adopting feminine mannerisms can all go a long way. You can do this, too!
