I am volunteering to help with preparing and serving the Thanksgiving Dinner on Wednesday night for the homeless and indigent at Most Holy Redeemer, SF's "gay" Catholic Church in The Castro.

At my main AA group, the First Place in the TL, I was selected to organize the Thanksgiving Day Pot Luck Feast and will attend that. So far, I have commitments to have  a Cajun Fried Turkey, Two Roasted Turkeys and a Ham and all the sides and desserts. This will be my first sober Thanksgiving in many years!

My Thanksgiving plans are the same as always.  Cleaning, cooking, setting the table, serving, eating, cleaning.  All with a bunch of in-laws that I hate.

I love this holiday!

For years, when I lived alone, I would prepare Thanksgiving dinner and invite everyon that I knew who had no where else to go.  Sometimes the gatherings would get fairly large, stressing the capacity of my small apartment.

The numbers are smaller now.  I'll be preparing a feast for my very best friend and my hubby.  My best friend is now as much a part of my family as my sister.  We've known each othe for many years and shared a lot of experiences.

I have a wonderful life.. I have much to be thankful for.

YUM!  I've started to clean and scrub. There is so much to prepare for that one meal!  But I wouldn't have it any other way.

the usual.  mom, dad, selegne, selegne's folks, dante, desdemona.  afterwards i have a date with the man of my dreams [did i just say that?].  no turkey this year.  lots of ham, duck & chicken though

Ha ha!  oh, i mean, sorry to hear that.

Driving to the Grand Canyon with my daughter, and leaving all the in-laws behind. (they're not really that bad). Northern Arizona is brutally cold this time of year, and i love it. i get all bundled up, and get to wear gloves. the tradition is, we always go to the Southern Rim, and we always hike up to the Hermit's Nest, and have hot chocolate. if we have time, we'll stop by and see the gigantic crater.

The dinner went well last night, pretty much a full house. The desserts were incredible, I mean we are talking four star restaurant quality. Really nice that we can provide a dinner like that for the homeless and indigent. I also met a couple very interesting women there (other volunteers) I hadn't even thought about it but doing these things is excellent way to meet people with the same mindset as oneself.

I am doing Project Homeless Connect on Dec 5th, it is a big event at the Bill Graham where we provide housing, dental care, even eyeglasses and a lot of other services to about a couple thousand homeless people.

I was looking forward to spending it with my mom.

But it turns out my ultra-conservative stepsister and her idiot husband decided they were coming at the last minute.  So my mom "didn't want to make a scene" and told me she didn't want me to come today.  Oh, she was in tears.  She felt so bad.  How torn she was.  She was hoping "I'd be sensitive to her for once."

I told her to $&*% off.

I'm spending the day alone in my house now, cause my roommate is with his family.  No way of getting ahold of him.  I guess I'll call some of my nicer relatives and just talk to them.

Seriously though, I'm sorry things went like that. I sorta got the same thing a few weeks ago when I keep asking to see my parents, and they keep finding excuses to keep me away... and yet when my brother called and demanded to visit them, it was all hugs and kisses.

Whatever, ya know?

Anyway, if you wanna run over to eastern PA, I have a nice turkey we can feast on. My wife and I were supposed to be at her sister's right now, but she (wife) got terribly sick this morning and I put her to bed. So I'm sitting here, alone, with a house filled with the smells of my turkey, watching football, and making grumpy posts all over the forum

The problem with eating a turkey alone is it's just me, boredom, a turkey originally meant for many people... and no one to tell me to STOP, lol. My wife was worried it was too big to fit into the fridge. Yea, well, I took care of the size problem

OMG that was good! It was cooked in one of those "oven bag" thingies, and my GOD it came out moist, tender and tasty!

Hopfully, it'll put me to sleep now and I'll stop posting grumpy, self-righteous posts everywhere...

I had my first taste of deep fried turkey at work last night, it was so yummy.  First time for Sweetpotato pie too. I swear living in the south is going to be the death of me.

On a positive note, this was the best turkey I've ever made.  I really don't know why, but it came out SO good!  And the better news was that there are almost no leftovers.

I smoked a turkey (drum roll..............wait for it) and wow are they hard to keep lit.  (rimshot)  Actually, I did cook the turkey in the smoker and I have some oak chips that were once Jack Daniels oak barrels.  You soak the chips in water overnight and then once the coals get really hot, throw some of those oak chips on the coals. Yummy!!!!!!

We had our daughter and our grandson and her husband down for dinner. It was really nice. I helped out on everything, but was not the person in charge, that would be Pat. She likes it just so and if I make a mistake, its curtains. We had fresh green beans, yams w/marshmellows, three layered jello, wild rice dressing and of course the bird. Our son in law made three pumkin pies and brought down two, Pat made a pumkin pie w/pecans. Then there was the 5 bottles of very good wine. Make a note here no heals at thanksgiving again. We sat around and talked and our son in law downloaded some pictures that he had taken and talked about techy things, I noded head like I understood, I think he was speaking some foreign language. We gave the kids some food to take home but we still have enough to feed the city.
Got up early this morning to fight the crowds of shoppers or I should say they were fighting me. I was out the door by 4:45 AM on my way to my first store. Pat had to work, I went and visited her at the Fred Meyer. She was in charge of the coffee and donuts. She had chocolate donuts. She made some special coffee for me as she knew I was on my way. After 5 stores and my check book in the minus catagory I'm happy girl. What can a girl ask for, shopping, good cup of coffee and chocolate. Oh and by the way Pat put me in charge of the Thanksgiving clean-up. I was done about 10 PM. Thanks Pat.
