i can't afford voice therapy, and even if I could, the nearest voice therapist is like a $90 taxi ride away one way. So that's not going to happen lol.:p


I'm having a little trouble teaching myself to talk in a female voice in my natural accent (which is an average American accent I guess.. not Southern or Boston though, nothing specific really).
So I've been playing around with the idea of talking in a different accent to help my voice sound more feminine/make this whole thing easier.

I've tried a slight to medium English (British) accent but it's very, very difficult to learn, especially if you've never even been around someone with one. I've made a little progress, but not much. But I do sound quite a bit more feminine in those rare times when I get the accent just right.

And I've tried a Transatlantic accent (think Rarity from MLP, it's basically a mix of an English accent and a typical American accent) but that's actually even harder than an English accent.

Are there certain accents from around the world that sound more feminine or are easier to talk in a female voice with?

Valley girl all the way.  Trust me, it's the most feminine accent in the US.

Try a "southern belle" accent, and be sure to drawl things out a bit. I find it really easy to work with.

Ermmm no. I get annoyed by valley girls.

Apparently I speak with a neutral European accent that makes people think I'm Dutch.  Even Dutch people think I'm Dutch!  I can offer no advice about how I achieved that because it just sort of happened when I started to work on my voice.  Beware of English accents because anyone from Britain or the old British Commonwealth countries will pick up on a generic English accent as being fake right away.  English accents and dialects are identifiably regional and can even vary from one side of a large city to the other.

I am taking voice lessons and have so for 6 months. I'm not finding it difficult at all, I just place myself in a play or pretend I'm reading childrens book to my children and the voice naturally comes. I must add that there are certain voice pratices and training that help a great deal to develop resonance. If you cannot afford lessons then take a look on the internet and there are many good self tutorials and refer to the Forum. I do speak Cantonese fluently and its a language that has limited low pitches and during a session I used Cantonese and it was truly easy.

Hmm no if anything it would make training even more difficult cause trying to learn an accent that doesn't come naturally to you is just adding unnecessary work. I could only start doing accents in my new voice till after I had my voice down not before.

The therapist I went to said accents were more or less irrelevant when it comes to voice feminization. Take that for what it's worth.

I speak English, Dutch and Italian (some other languages too but to a lesser extent). I have found that English is better for feminisation than Dutch, as Dutch is very glottal, particularly r and sch sounds, and the resonance of the throat is therefore more evident. Italian is, at least when spoken with correct accent and style, spoken slightly more from the front of the mouth than English which is actually of benefit.

I don't think that learning the language or accent would help though as it would be more difficult than just learning those aspects of the accent that contribute to feminisation or reduce those aspects that hinder it.
