I almost had a referral for testosterone but my endocrinologist has a new requirement for his new hormone taking friends. I don't know if it's just some people or every where but now I need counseling and a psychiatric evaluation. Sigh. I was so close but now I have to wait about another 2 mounths because of busy scheduling. It should only be one appointment but still. Can anyone confirm this? Or is this a local thing

Unless your endo does Informed Consent, a psych eval is the normal way of things under the WPATH Standards of Care, so it's nothing new and not at all unusual.

True about the WPATH stuff, but as to whether it might be something local, it would help to know where you are.

I thought the psychiatric eval was only a requirement for surgery. My therapist did not require that. She said that I was ready and I originally wasn't when we first met.

I'm in the US, and needed a letter to start HRT. (I started in Feb 2012).

As I understand it, the letter was required as of that time, but since then I've heard that letters for anything are not "required", but doctors like to CYA to safeguard against lawsuits.
...I think for most of us it is a futile effort to try and put this genie back in the bottle once she has tasted freedom...

Well you need both ?
From another post of yours, you said you have a counselor.
So they want an evaluation because you're not 18 yet ?
Have you asked your counselor, maybe they can help out ?

I live in ohio near the Youngstown/Cleveland area and go to Marilyn Burns(She is amazing, I would definitely recommend). I was gonna go to an endocrinologist in warren ohio which is about 20 minutes away. This endo that I was going to go to didn't require a evaluation before. My age wasn't a problem because she talked to him and he didn't care, but ever since the Bruce Jenner interview(about a week after) he required it. So now he requires both a referral and a physiatric evaluation. My counselor says it probably they are getting pressure from the people and doctors more then every and want to cover themselves and are getting orders from above. It doesn't bother me to much but I'd rather be on t in 2 Weeks rather then 2+ months but shizz happens. She also says there are some other endos are also requiring both. So I don't know
