My church, UNITY of Clearwater, spent a lot of time and money organizing and putting on a great Day of Remembrance Service. Susan Stanton spoke and Faith Rivera, 2 time Emmy winner, sang. There were about 150 people there. It was a wonderful and inspiring service. The religious community did it, risked our church being bombed, or at least, being demonstrated against. Neither happened, thank God. Only about a 10 or so trans people came, after a lot more than that were invited, more than once. The trans community, if you want to call it that, here did nothing, many did not even show up. One trans person even complained because she didn't like some of the content. She later apologized. I am very disappointed with my community at this time, and feel that we deserve exactly what we've been getting. Most trans I have met here are pathetic and sorry. I am thankful for the ones who bothered to show up, however. They are the superstars. Strange that non trans people around here do more for us than we do for ourselves. That's real tolerance! I am beginning to see how society will be judging us not for what we are, but for what we don't do to further our own cause.
