Soo, my birthday is coming up very soon and I'm starting hormones that same day! My band is taking me out into the city for the night and I'm debating if I should come out as Chelsea for the first time in public. I am completly out to them and have there support as being Trans. I know this should be something I decide on my own but I would love to hear thoughts on this?

Hi Chelsea,

I would say that if it's your birthday, you are starting hormones that day and your band is taking you out and is supportive (so one can hope that they'll stand by you if someone acts funny), then it sounds like a very good combination of reasons to go out as Chelsea.

Eventually it's up to you to decide as you rightly said, but have fun either way.

Take care

If you feel you are ready then by all means. I usually suggest to people that they try girl mode one or two times in a safe public place first before trying to spread their wings to more adventurous outings, especially ones where alcohol and strangers might be involved. Keeping safe is a number one priority, not just as a trans person but also as a woman, if you haven't much experience going out in girl mode you need to be mindful of your environment and the people around you. But yeah, congrats, hope you have a good night!

I know that for me the first few months were terrifying.  I would get dressed and stand behind my front door with my hand on the knob, sometimes for a half hour.  Sometimes I would never end up leaving.  But it got much easier over time, and eventually it is just liberating and wonderful.

For me, the key remains being gentle with myself.  After a year and half full-time, I am still figuring out what kind of woman I am, what my style is, etc.   I try things out, some of them work, and some of them I put aside.  It's all OK.  I have learned to have a sense of humor about when I experiment and it doesn't work out (and I celebrate when it DOES).   When I find something I absolutely LOVE and feel GREAT in, so much the better!

Everyone does this differently and there is no right way or wrong way.  It has been super-helpful to have female friends willing to critique my wardrobe choices, though!  Also, I still try to study women close to my age whose style I really like and try to incorporate some of the things they do.

Just some random things I thought of, halfway through my first cup of coffee.  Take them or leave them, but all the best to you! :-)

It really took me a while and yes it was terrifying. In addition to the public I have my wife who completely disapproves. But after a while it's just no big deal. I am still nervous but I just try to power through it and that helps.

Hey Chelsea!

It sounds like you have every reason to go out and be yourself! You'll have a supportive group of people, it'll be your birthday, and you have reason to celebrate! it is up to you, but it sounds like you have a lot of reasons to go out and be proud of who you are!

Hope this helps!

Just to state what others have said, great idea but be safe. Booze, birthday, coming out. Lots of emotion. It can be overwhelming. Make sure you have a safe person to look after you if things get out of hand.

Oh

CONGRATULATIONS!

Congrats. that is a lot of of wonderful things happening around your birthday. I could have held off one day and started hormones the day of my birthday found I couldn't wait. No better way to celebrate a birthday than hormones except with you celebrating it with your band around you. Hugs

As long as you're ready, go for it. It took me time before I was ready, but once I started dressing in public I was already comfortable with myself after months of hrt so it was easier.

How old will you be Chelsea? You don't have to share if you don't want to I'm just curious. I've always been a bit nosey. : :P

I will be 28 years young lol.. And the way that I'm looking at this, is I've worried my whole life what other people might think.. There is never going to be a good time and I can't wait for the world to be ready I have to be myself!

Congratulations!

I started HRT on May 28; my birthday is May 31. I thought about waiting the three days but as fast as that thought came I said no way and started.

Expressing can begin with crew neck tops and shorts (spring where I am now) and sneakers.  Really not a big deal. Then change up as you feel more and more comfortable. You can add an accessory when you feel good. I do not push myself, I nudge myself.
