Families with a transgender child learn and change

http://www.bostonglobe.com/lifestyle/2015/05/25/parents-transgender-children-acceptance-support-and-new-beginnings/EQGZ0SPU7U9rAkujCKCiLL/story.html

The Boston Globe/by Cristela Guerra    o5/25/2015

" Barbra Jackson, 61, fills her Pembroke Home with family photos, but she cherishes the blank picture frame, Christmas present and IOU from one of her children. Three years ago, the child she knew as her eldest son announced she was transgender."

I'm afraid if Obama doesn't hurry up and put his money where is mouth is on transgender civil rights a republican is going to be back in the White House and we all know what happens then.  A quick trip back to bigot country.

Anything the President can do, the next President can undo. We need broader support. Laws have to change, not just executive orders. Which doesn't mean to say I would not like to see one. At least it's something.

Edit: Huh. It seems what I was responding to was removed while I was doing it. Well, my poi t still stands.
April 22, 2015, the day of my first face to face pass in gender neutral clothes and no makeup. It may be months to the next one, but I'm good with that!

Being transgender is just a phase. It hardly ever starts before conception and always ends promptly at death.

Yes and no. Legally yes, but a sitting president from either party would thing really long and hard before using executive power to remove human rights that a group already had.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

That's a false notion. The GOP is very divided on LGBT rights. Unless it's Ted Cruz or similar, I doubt the next POTUS will do much of anything against LGBt rights.

Why don't we try to engage both parties on this issue instead of looking to pick sides?

Not necessarily. There are some willing to go bull in a china shop. But as I've said, the GOP itself is very divided on the issue. I doubt they'll touch it.

I just hope the dems do their part and don't sacrifice us at the altar of compromise like Barney Frank did with ENDA.

Because often we feel like one side or another isn't doing enough to protect or promote things that protect and aid us. I wish we could engage both sides in the way you request, but it's not always possible.

If the side that people claim will protect us is the democrats their past record with ENDA and RFRA certainly hasn't shown us this.

I believe the best way to get permanent change is to engage both parties. There is no way one party is going to stay in power forever and even if they do, one party rule isn't pretty anywhere it's been tried. Also trying to alter the voting demographic via amnesty for undocumented/illegals isn't going to work because many of them come from a very religious "family oriented" society.

This is not going to be an issue if we win hearts and minds.

Admittedly one of the biggest turn offs for me from being identified as part of the LGBT community is that people assume that I am a liberal democrat. I am most certainly not.

This is a great story with a lot of information, and as far as I can tell all of the accounts come from my home state of Massachusetts. However.....the story never once mentioned politics, and shame on all of you who took it in that direction.

Hugs, Devlyn

It's not false to me.  That's been my experience.
