As I'm waiting for my FFS and counting the days (and the nights- thanks god for sleeping pills!) I'm thinking about my transition. I've got most of the details figured, except a big one - my middle name.

Names are very important to me. I already changed my name once, and it was an important step to move away from my previous identity and redefine myself.

I know will totally take Charlotte as my first name to replace my current sex-neutral (but still very boyish) first name, but I have no idea about the middle name. No sure whether it should have a special meaning. I tried looking at the SSA website for names that were popular in the 70s and the 80s, but nothing stuck me except maybe Vanessa.

I briefly though about Kara (Kara Thrace, I'm into scifi!) , but it's way to close to Charlotte. Then I thought again about Vanessa, as it's a made up name and I am "making myself", but I don't really like it. It could be Joan - I like the sound, and it's short. But I don't have much more ideas than that, while for my first and last name I knew exactly what I wanted.

I think my mom will push me to use the male first name of my old me (it's a long story- https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,186238.msg1659312.html#msg1659312) which could be OK as lots of girls have a masculine middle name, but I'm not sure I want that.

There are many discussions about first name, but none about middle names. What are your ideas about middle names??

For my middle name I chose to select a name from a woman who has had a positive influence and impact on my life. I did this to honor her and to always remember that she was there for me when I needed it most. When I asked her for permission we both cried in happiness.

I've picked Charlotte for my name, too.  Since my birth middle name is my maternal grandfather's name, I thought I would go with my paternal grandmother's name, Rose.  But Charlotte Rose sounded so formal.  I also wanted a gun nickname and I liked the idea of CJ.  That also might be easy for people having trouble calling me Charlotte.  I always liked the name Jennifer, so that's how I came up with Charlotte Jennifer.  Bit of a mouthful, but I like it.  Charlotte Joan would be cute, too.

Jennifer means "white enchantress", which I also like. I was thinking about Fionna which means the same with Irish roots.

But I'm not sure. Ok I'm complicated when it comes to names! Ideally :
- the name sounds nice
- the name has a nice meaning too
- there is no male version of the first name (ok it's not exactly the case for Charlotte but close enough :-)
- first + middle names are short enough to avoid having a mouthful. Charlotte is already quite long but I totally love it. Won't change it!!

At the moment I'm looking on meaning first, but I haven't found anything good yet. Something like "desired", "awaited", "finally" could be nice, as it took me a long time to accept myself. Or "acceptance", "happiness"

Maybe: Renee, Marie, Mae, Anne, Lynn, or Louise. 

Renee and Mae are great! I also totally dig Zoe as it simply means alive, and Emma (being complete)

For me, it's one of three things. The first name I'm considering is actually what my parents would have named me if I'd been a girl, Marie (First name would have been Melissa but I do NOT like that).

Second, my current middle name (David) I got from the Doctor that delivered me (long story behind that one, but it wasn't a hospital birth and he wasn't even my mom's doc) and his last name (Dora) would work as well.

Third, I absolutely love the name Rose and Kylie Rose has a pretty ring to it.

Third and First are the two I'm more seriously considering. It'll kind of depend on how supportive my parents are when I can finally come out to them. If they completely unsupportive, choosing the name Marie seems like it'd be a slap in the face to them and I don't wanna do that.

For me, I went after a middle name that I liked the sound of and that I had a connection with. I had been inspired by a character in a book and that resulted in me learning about someone supposedly similar from the past and that name I feel in love with in the first place. When I read you post Amber came to mind.

I sub-consciously chose "Joi" about 20 yrs. ago because it was how I felt when a close confidant called me by that name.
I am in the process of changing mine now.  I picked "Michelle" the feminine form of my given middle name.  These two names work well for me because I will keep the same initials (as my given 1st was James). A name I really never liked.  Kinda strange when I was in 1st grade let my parents know that I didn't like my 1st name and wanted everyone to call me "Mike" Now 60 yrs. later Mike's still there as "Michelle" James is finally going bye-bye.

I think I've chosen my middle name.

You can have it if you'd like.  I think it flows pretty well with Charlotte as much as it does with Kristina.

My middle name is the feminine version of my old middle name...I got it the first time he disappeared completely (for 4 days) and, not knowing if he'd be back, decided it'd be good to honor him for his decades of decent and honorable service to "us."

Well if you made your middle name also start with a C, and you're last name didn't, your new nickname could be "CC" (see-see). So you'd get 2 for the price of one!
