Shawn Sunshine

Hi y'all  :-*

I have for a long time even before I started transitioning have been wishy washy about my hair. I had it long once when I was 19 but it was really wavy and I had it cut short with hopes of going in the Army...but that never happened so I have just been keeping it short and slicking it back and/or straight as possible for a long time. Only in the last 5 years or so have I embraced my wavy hair in a bigger way. Not that I didnt have times in the past where I tried again but it was short lived.

But Now I am at an impasse, I like my hair wavy but I also think it can work curly. To Curl it I don't even have to use a brush, just some products and not even a perm.

But I really cant see it for myself at how much more or less feminine I look depending on the style. So this is where I need your help. I plan on growing it longer so there's that also. If you have any other suggestions or tips please let me know. I want to hear from everyone.

Here is me today this morning with my hair brushed and natural.

And this is my hair with some volumizer and anti frizz leave ins that help me curl well.

Stay Sunny!

I think that the curly style makes you look more feminine, but that could change when it grows out.

I've been trying to figure out how to grow out my curly hair too.  It's a bit more curly than yours when I use product as well, and it just gets bushy and huge when I brush it.  You wouldn't believe how big it is in the mornings!

I've seen a lot of curly hair styles for short hair, but it almost always entails cutting it in some way and I really don't want to shorten any of it if my goal is to have it longer!  I've only got about a month before I have to make a decision though because then it's going to start getting super big.  I've thought about extensions.

I think you would look good in curly hair. You may want to get a curl crunch product and a pic.

I have no choice. I have very curly hair. I use curl crunch and spray oil on my hair and it gets very curly.

There is a EVP at work that ran her fingers over my hair and commented about how curly it was and then a few weeks ago she asked me if it was natural. At group one of the therapist commented, wow, look at your curly hair. I just wish for straight hair or even wavy hair.

You look great with both hairstyles but the curly style seems to suit you a bit better. :) pick with the style you're most happy with, though!

I'd like to see a picture where you put as much time into making it look good straight as you've tried to make it look good curled for me to draw a fair comparison tbh.

It's just a harmless nickname. Relax.

From about a month ago

Here are my thoughts on some of the images you posted of yourself, and I'm not sure if you're MtF or FtM or what look you're going for, so just giving feedback based off what you've posted here.

- That one to me makes you look the most older and masculine, because it has the "I'm a guy I don't care about my hair I just got up and gotta go" look to it.

- This one makes you look the youngest and thinest, because it's bouncing around the sides of your head and curls are usually a mental implication of youth.

- This one makes your face look wider/fatter/heavier but I don't think it's because your hair is straight. I think it's because you trimmed the sides very very short (or you have it combed straight down its hard to tell - like look on the right side vs the left side over the ear area. Left isn't so bad, it bulbs out some, but the right is flat and makes the top of your head have a 'sprout' look. Compare these by viewing your full size image and putting your hand over half your face to see only a half at a time and bounce it back and forth, then you'll really see what I'm saying).
- This one also makes you appear the most feminine and kinda gay because it looks forced instead of natural and doesn't enhance to your masculine facial features but rather your fem.
- If you wanted your straight hair look to be more masculine, you'd need to push it in the opposite direction, back, instead of forward. Straight men tend to push their hair backwards away from their face, even when losing it, and you see the receding hair lines.

So if you're going for a masculine look, I'd honestly wonder how you'd look with your hair straight and pushed back away from your face, but not conditioned so much, as that style typically is more masculine. Again, dunno what look you're going for.

In conclusion,
Let's be real. You've got some chubbiness going on and it'll suit you best to make sure you've got some fluff in your hair above the ears. This will thin your face and better compliment you in general - whether it's straight or curled. In general based on the pictures you posted here, the curls yielded a better overall result, and you seem to like them more as well - you can see it in your eyes in those pictures vs the others.

Hope I helped.  ;)

Shawn, don't feel offended if I ask this, but why aren't you growing it out? Short hair does not "pass" well.
