How did you figure out your first name?

I still don't know what I want to be called.

I've been a fan of Rose, Roselia, Rosario, Roseline, etc., as many Rose- names as you can think really. Because I can't get away from that, for the life of me, I'm settled around that.

I'm curious if anyone out there went through a process of determining their name, if it came easy to you, if you had someone choose for you, you name it. (:

I went with one that resonated with me. It was any decision to make for me. I'm sorry your having more difficulty choosing one. You could always take one out for a spin and if that one doesn't work try another. Hugs

Hi Orchid,

I chose my name in a very methodical way. I took a notebook and wrote two pages worth of names and eliminated

them one by one by the way it looked on paper and by the way it sounded. The only name I couldn't eliminate was

Ida. At that point I knew that was the name for me. I have always liked the name Ida. Unique, exotic and old

fashioned. Its not widely used nowadays. Not only do I love my name its very fitting. In german Ida means

hardworking. I am a very hard worker, I have a strong work ethic. In sanskrit, the language of india Ida means insight

or insightful, I do have a very unique insight of the world. Not to mention my friends have told me that I look like an

Ida.

My mom picked it. She was having a hard time with everything at first and that really helped her accept it. I asked her what my name would have been and she said Abby and i was like...okay then thats what I'll use and as tough as it was at the time i could tell she really appreciated that.

She tells me now that it really means a lot to her and it helped her bond with me as her daughter

I chose my name when in my teens, also as it happens its always been the same first name initial... therefore signatures require no re-learning... easy  ;)

of course in my late teens I never thought of signatures, was a bonus!

My mom picked my name actually, the doctors couldn't 100% tell if I was going to come out male or female. But they were leaning towards female due to some ultrasounds. So she picked Heather, but changed it on the fly when I was born with a penis :P

I always like the name Heather, so its what I go by now :)

I decided I wanted to keep my initials, so that cut out a significant chunk of options right there.  I tried a couple different names on for size over a couple weeks and have found the one I like so far.  Nothing's official yet, so it may change again, lol.

For my middle name I wanted something "pagan" in nature (as suggested by my wife).  I've always loved the Morrigan from Irish mythology, but Morrigan was a mouthful as a middle name, so I shortened it to Morgan.

This always stumped me when I'd ask myself, but one day (while presenting as male still) in middle school, one of my closest friends said my nickname was to be Roxanne (because of "Roxanne" by The Police) and jokingly called me that all the way through high school...little did she know, by saying it so much, she gave me my name! I'm always told it was a cheap and trashy way to name myself but hey, it just stuck with me! Haha (:

I'm a big fan of the Swamp Thing character and I couldn't find a name I liked better. After using it for months, it just stuck. I really didn't put much into my name lol

Hailey zy

I always liked my initials which also spelled hay  :) and I liked that H is the first letter of my name and I wanted to keep it, so right of bat there were not many names to choose that started with an H but I made a list with all the names that I could think Hailey, Hannah, Heather etc...

I'll let you guess which one I choose  ;)

Kate was issued to me in a dream, much after a fateful accidental phone call, back in 2009. Even back then, when my dysphoria was more to the back of my mind and not even out to myself, I had used the name for about a year, then every now and again. Pretty soon, I should have established coming out to my parents and extended family, then transition my name to Kate.
The only trouble I have is my middle name, though at the moment am partial to Rosemary, unless I go for the family middle name Ann
