REPORT: Trans Students Have Caused Zero Incidents in Bathrooms Nationwide

As presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee continues to make headlines for cracking a tasteless joke about wishing he'd pretended to be a trans teenager so he could have snuck into women's locker rooms, a far more noteworthy occurence happened: The scenario Huckabee imagined has failed to materialize in any of the 17 largest school districts within U.S. states that have trans-inclusive nondiscrimination policies.

In fact, not one of the schools — which serve more than 600,000 students — has reported a single inappropriate act, harassment, or "negative consequence" since they began implementing policies to include and protect trans students using gender-affirming bathrooms, locker rooms, and sports teams, according to a new report by Media Matters for America.

The story is that it is a NON-story. The Trans Community has been pointing this out in all of the situations where this was argued. "We just need to pee."

I think the bigger story is that Mike Huckabee is a closet peeping tom. He says he wishes he could have claimed to be transgender as a teenager so he could get into the women's restroom.

Hey Mike, there's nothing stopping you now - just start seeing a gender therapist, start hormones, start presenting as a woman and maybe they'll let you in. Does he really believe transgender people go through all the expense, rejection, hate, violence just so we can get into women's bathrooms where you generally can't see anything anyway as the stalls are usually private?

Mark my words, this will come back to haunt him on the campaign trail. "Mike Huckabee Peeping Tom Wannabe" Surprised the news media hasn't started pounding him with it yet. Just goes to show they don't consider him a credible candidate.

I'll say this concerns me, though. Based on the sheer numbers, sooner or later something is going to go wrong. Some mean girl is going to harass a transgirl, or a garden variety male bully is going to hassle a trans guy. We'll hear from the Huckabees and the haters, "see, we told you this would happen," and the whole thing will be controversial.

A much stronger argument, one that is not dependent on the miracle of zero incidents, is to point to the overwhelming incidence of bullying of transgender students, depression, anxiety, and suicide, etc.

I think the fear that the "conservatives" were playing up was that the transgender student was going to, let's be straight here, molest one of the cis girls. Kind of like Huckabee talking about wanting to sneak into the girls room. The whole just need to pee argument is just that, need to pee. The probability of bullying or attack does not come from the transgender student, but as you aptly put, a cis student bullying the trans.

The whole premise of all the misguided bathroom legislation was to protect women from males predators. And the fact is, a trans-woman on HRT anti-androgens isn't going to be much of a threat. Unfortunately the misogynist legislators impugn their own pervert fantasies to the transgender population, when for the most part, nothing could be further from the truth.

Just goes to show what kinds of pervs are against civil rights of LGBTQI people.

The very idea that having bathrooms be more trans-inclusive is somehow going to cause molestation or even peeping is just silly. It's as if people don't think things through before taking up a position on an issue.
For one, if someone is going to molest someone in a bathroom, they probably have no qualms about breaking bathroom rules and just going into the bathroom they're not allowed in anyway.
And even if there are trans people who would molest others or just peep at people, a homosexual, bisexual, or pansexual cisgendered person could just as easily do the same thing, yet they're not barred from using the bathroom of their gender.
It's really all just a poor excuse to justify discrimination and transphobia.
