So today, I had one of the best shopping experiences I've had in recent memory, which left me smiling all day.
Basically, I was out shopping for some clothes and makeup today in preparation for the Pride Festival taking place this weekend. I was super apprehensive over the shopping trip in part, because I'd never bought makeup or clothing openly for myself in the past (I've bought both before, but always had some excuse for the sales associate. Usually that they were gifts for a girlfriend or sister). I was also a little anxious because I was picking out the outfit for my first public outing as myself.
Anyway, my first stop was to get some new makeup at Sephora. Taking advice I'd seen online from other girls, I decided to just be bold, be myself, and just tell the sales associate what I needed. Much to my delight, the sales associate didn't even bat an eye when she learned the makeup was being purchased for myself. She even helped me try out a few different primer and foundation combinations until I found the right mix.
The highlight of my day however, ended up being my trip to Nordstrom. Out of all the things I bought today, buying a new bra, in guy mode, was the most difficult thing for me to build up the courage for. Luckily, when I explained why I was buying the bra, the two ladies in the department were not only super supportive and wonderfully kind, but were actually fighting over who would get to help me with sizing. They completely alleviated all of my stressing over the issue and were absolutely amazing. One of them even said she'd try and stop by the booth I will be working at the festival to say hi.
I just wanted to share this, for anyone who is having a down day. Just know that even though it may not seem like it some days, there are plenty of amazing, accepting people out there.
