Firstly, remember that Caitlyn uses female pronouns now.
Secondly, I definitely agree. Her narrative, while marred by the link to the Kardashians, is also massively publicly visible because of this, alongside Jenner's gold medal in the Olympics. One of my undergrads sent me a link to her coming-out interview because she said it had touched her so much, and Caitlyn's Twitter popularity shows just how massively visible she is right now.
Of course, her narrative--the money to transition, her extreme passability on the cover, etc.--is not that of most transwomen, and with more trans* visibility has come more transphobic retaliation (witness the great amount of transphobia lobbied at Jenner since the cover, such that a Twitter bot was designed specifically to target tweets that misgendered her), but I think this will all lead, over time, to a significant increase in normalisation of trans* identity for people who had never given much thought to us before. And that's a good thing.
