Theories on hatred and intolerance.

Why do people hate?

There's the 'fear what I don't understand, what is different from me' angle:
'I can't fathom these people, it's so different to my own experience as a human.'

The religion angle:
The Bible has been mal-used to justify hatred toward homosexuals, transpeople, and members of the Black race (and possibly other groups).

The 'pack mentality' angle:
I honestly believe some hate in order to bond with other haters. (I know I sure noticed a lot of bonding going on among my persecutors as a child.)

The 'superiority' angle:
'I may not be perfect, but at least I'm better/more righteous/more normal/more worthy than them.'


Your theories and thoughts?

I agree with what you've said so far.

maybe a reason we can add is that, for some people, it is somehow easier to hate someone than to make the effort to understand them. 

or,

Blame.  Haters are unable to take responsibility for some of the bad aspects of their lives and so seek to blame others and avoid the truth by clinging to their hate.
