Hello. I just wanted to know if you shoulders look to wide in this picture:http://s300.photobucket.com/user/Robin_Faust/media/PIC_0120_zpsws1ppo9u.jpg.html

I know I obviously need to lose some weight, and I'm trying to work on that, but I didn't come here to talk about me weight, I came to ask about my shoulders.

So, how do they look?

Thank you for your time.

I'll be kind of honest and say it is hard to tell. You cut off your neck.. maybe a different picture and just put a black circle on your face (if that was the intention, to block your face) and it would help us give you a better reply.
But from the picture you showed- I have seen girls in my classes with wide shoulders like yours but their head match their shoulders. It doesn't look too bad from the picture.

Based on these pictures alone you probably don't have extremely wide shoulders. But in the end it's all about proportions. We really should compare your shoulder width with your hips as that what's more important.

Really cannot see them well, even with the new link.  Need a fuller body shot, if you're comfy with that!

Ladies,

I have to be brutally honest, as a genetic male our shoulders are definitely broader compared to the average cis women. It will be a different story if you started taking puberty blockers from age 13 and up then you will be blessed with a narrow shoulder to wider hip proportion.

If shoulders are problem or you wish to conceal their length, proper clothing will do the trick.
V necks
Scoop necks
Raglan Sleeves. If you dont know what a raglan sleeve is, review the link below:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raglan_sleeve

Avoid:
Boat Necks
Turtle Neck
Round necks

Revealing your neck and chest will always give an illusion of a shorter shoulders.

Bottoms:

Flared Bottoms
Colored Pants (i.e. Blue, Red)
Bottoms with a lot of detail
Colorful shoes

The idea behind all these, is to focus the attention on the bottom half of your body and not on our upper body as it's quite common for trans women to have a heavier upper body set.

Avoid skinny jeans or tapered pants unless you are wearing a lose top to give an illusion of wider hips. Otherwise, you will look like a walking hanger.

Love,

April

The pic was a bit blurry and would be good to see your whole body but your shoulders dont look too wide.  I have wide shoulders too,  though not as wide as a lot of people.

They look fine to me as well, just seeing your whole body would help as others have said.

Here are some pictures with more of me in them.

I don't think they look so bad in these pictures.

I think the main reason I'm worried so much is because I read a short story a few days ago involving a trans woman who didn't pass, and it made me a bit paranoid, also, the bathroom mirror makes everything look big, which doesn't help.

Your shoulders look pretty average to me, particularly since your hips are nearly as wide - and the overall look of a woman's body is partly about proportion, so as long as it all balances well people's *impression* won't be of wide shoulders.

(My wife has 22" shoulders, which is objectively very broad, but also has big breasts and hips. Nobody's ever even noticed that her shoulders are wide.)

I think you'll be fine, your shoulders won't cause you much problems in passing. I know a few cis girls who have broader than average shoulders and nobody questions their gender.

Your shoulders look about normal to me (three heads wide) I'm not sure is you have started HRT or not but some of that width is due to the muscle structure in your upper arms (most women are comparatively boney in this area) which can add between 1 to 4 inches to your width so its possible with the use of t blockers and HRT that muscle structure will reduce making your shoulders even narrower (which will look even narrower when seen with your widening hips) but even without HRT I think your in the "Norm" range for women (your actual size is a different story you could be huge or small I cant really tell but your proportions look right)
I'll struggle hard today to live the life I want tomorrow !

Step One - Lose the weight!

I didn't think my hips were very wide, are you sure that's not my stomach you're seeing? I could stand to lose about 38 pounds(I don't know if you can tell).I wonder if there will be any problems after I lose my extra weight.

But anyway, thank you, all of you, I do feel better.

Well, it's hard to say without tighter clothes on the bottom (what's called "hips" in fashion/figure terms is really the widest part of the upper thigh, though).

Look at the photo with the cartoon T-shirt, in particular, and draw a line down from the edge of your shoulder to the top of the thigh... because that line shows the hips/pants actually a little *wider* than your shoulders. If
you're on HRT already, that's a great result; if you're not, your shoulders are actually rather narrow relative to your build! But in the end, either your actual hips are wider than you think or the outfit you have on makes it look that way - in which case, just make a note that that look works for you. ;)

#15
I found this post last night

Most of the women there claim to have around 17 inch shoulders, some are 18 or 19.

I measured mine and they are about 16-17 inches, maybe I am a little bit narrow(at least by male standards).

I used to think my shoulders would be a problem but they are actually almost the same size as my hips now which is nice. In reality though, I also know how to dress which helps.
