Woman Sues Restaurant That Ejected Her From Bathroom for Looking 'Like a Man'

A Detroit woman has filed a lawsuit against restaurant chain Fishbone's after a frightening incident in which she was mistaken for a man and tossed out of a women's bathroom, reports TV station WXYZ.

Bathroom hysteria reaches a new level. I think we're going to see more and more of this as self-righteous people decide to take matters into their own hands. Truly horrible, especially when the security guard (rent a cop) wouldn't even listen to reason and allow the woman to show her identification and paid no attention to the fact she was a masculine looking, cis-woman.

$25,000 is nothing! She should make an example out of her experience, and let them pay for it... a million or two would make them and others think twice again if they would ever to try something like this again.

I have been following this story ever since it broke. It struck me that if some of the recent bathroom bills ever passed we would be seeing a lot more stories like this - stories of assumptions and unintended consequences. All it would take is a few stiff, costly lawsuits to get businesses to reach for their legislator to get rid of the law.

$25k is way too low. I'd start at $500k minimum - make them realize the cost of bigotry and hate. She had a legal ID - why didn't they take a moment to look at it?

frequently the damages in cases like this are based on what the specific company would find painful. A single mil would easily bankrupt a small business and result in it closing and the person not really getting much of anything. Where as a chain like McDonalds or whatever can absorb a mil easy and is hurt far more by the bad press. I'm not familiar with this restaraunt here in the boonies of Virginia so maybe someone else can give that information.

That's terrifying. I'm going to start carrying mace in addition to my gun.

It's happened before but didn't get any press. I have a cis-female friend who has masculine to androgynous face, 6'3", and androgynous to fem hair, but a very feminine body and she was tasered by a security guard several years ago before all these bathroom bill nonsense started.

The specific crime is faking evidence, planted evidence, evidence tampering. The TOS states:

5. You think, oh you'll just get escorted out of the restroom, get a talking too, worst case scenario get arrested, but never do you think, you'll be physically and verbally abused in the ways detailed in the article. Maybe this will be a wake up call to others hoping for any such bill to be passed, because I so can see this becoming a serious issue in the future more and more if such a bill ever passed but I also see said bill also being shredded, burned and so on once these law suits begin to pop up.
