Hello I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on what to do when people, especially family, refuse to say my name? My sister keeps calling me my birth name to hurt my feelings and many people have refused to call me by my chosen name.

Hi Kynnyh, welcome to Susan's Place! I'm from Boston. My advice is stick with it. Give them as long as it took you to decide a new name was right, that's only fair. Here are some helpful links to get you off to a good start. See you around the site!

Hugs, Devlyn

What kind of sister goes out of her way to hurt your feelings? I say just keep pushing forward too. If it continues I'd maybe just start calling them things they don't like. I don't condone needlessly raising tensions, but I'm a firm believer in fighting fire with fire. Maybe refer to your sister as he, mom as dad and vice versa, then maybe they can see what if feels like to be mislabeled.

Hi kynnyh, welcome to Susan's. It will take them sometime. In the meantime, ask them nicely to call by the name you now go by. I try to give as much time as I can, but for those who after a year are going out of their way to not even apologize after being corrected and still do it well I pretty much cut contact from. I look forward to seeing you around the forums. Good luck and Hugs

I wore a name tag around my family because none of them were taking me seriously
