I know I still have a year to go before I have to consider this but I wanted to ask about it anyway. If you had a revision after your top surgery, did you have it done in the office under local anesthetic or did you go back to the hospital and have it done under general anesthesia?

I have a small amount of tissue left over at the bottom of my incision, and my surgeon said that if it doesn't settle and even out by the time I'm a year post op, then he can liposuction it out under local anesthesia in the office. So I assume I'd be awake for the whole thing. That sounds pretty scary but I guess maybe they'd sedate me somehow? Just wondered about everyone's experience

I had a revision to remove some fat. He just used a local and it only took 5-10 minutes and I was on my way. I was sitting up while he did it with my head up; if I'd tried to watch, we'd have bumped heads. So I didn't see a thing. I've had some moles removed with a local, too, and this was no different.

I'm waiting to see how my dog ears are doing this fall and will have those clipped if they haven't gone down enough to suit me. That will also be under a local in his office.

Local is no biggie, but it depends on the person. I had a surgery on my Adams apple under local and I was happier than a lark the whole time, haha.

Two surgeons have told me it's actually better to do local, because the doctor is more careful and also it is faster for the body to process the anesthesia vs general which takes longer and puts you out more heavily in the days following. I don't think it necessarily affects the result, but it will probably have you back on your feet faster.

I had a pretty extensive revision done under local anesthetic in office. My left side had some scar tissue that ended up pulling my scar and nipple/areola up and toward midline. On a Friday, my surgeon did the revision (opening up around the areola and removing the scar tissue/repositioning) under local and it (along with a small bit of lipo) took about 2.5-3 hours. The sensations were a bit odd (I won't get graphic), but I was holding conversation with him the entire time. My wife and I went to lunch after he bandaged me up and I was back at work Monday (office job, I did have lifting restrictions again).

I agree with previous posters that it does depend on the person but honestly the anesthetic injections were the worst part and even that wasn't bad. The anticipation was scary and far worse than the actual procedure (at least for me).

Ha yep, they get you feeling pretty good with the local +1 to the anticipation being far worse!
