I can't think of anywhere else I can have this particular rant and have anyone even begin to understand all the subtleties involved. Hi BTW for anyone who is new here since I last posted, I'm Rosie and I hope today finds you doing very well.

Anyhow...you know you pass when you have to put up with some idiot fluffing man lecturing you at length about something which he obviously knows fluff all about and the whatnot expects you to care because he's a man and you aren't. Why am I not allowed to feed these people to the dogs?

GRRRR!

Thank you for listening, that's all.

Love,

Rosie
Well that was fun! What's next?

yep its very annoying but whatever best to let them wallow in their own ignorance than even try to correct them cause that just opens a whole new can of worms lol like it's not even worth it.

Whenever this happens to me, and it does, I always feel 100% accepted as a woman.
Giving them their well earned reward by showing them how impressed I am by their knowledge and how grateful I am for them sharing it with me is something that still needs work, but I am getting better at it.

It's one of those things that some guys do sometimes.I've become used to my opinions being worth less and having to try a bit harder. It is funny though when I know more than the person doing it to me and they realise it.It happened at work the other day-I pointed something out to two male colleagues who where all"oh no it's not that etc etc" I stuck to my guns and explained to them in simple language.Eventually they realised what they were looking at and managed a"looks like it could be,I suppose"

Oh, I find it hilarious!

Especially when a guy is so sure he is right. Then makes some big mistake. Then gets all embarrassed, and it just kills him to admit it.

lol :~D

Everyday fools are best skipped. I prefer to even skip the listening to part.

Somewhat related, this bump is something I can definitely expect at the work place as well.

Doubtlessly, I will have to work on retaining the amount of authority I have right now. My change will be seen, if unspoken, as getting weaker, meeker. And some [many many] ppl will try to push, both cis m and cis f. I need to make sure to push back just like female colleagues. Maybe get inventive since I *am* neither cis m nor cis f.

So I have been [and am] observing how those encounters go between other people.

As soon as I roll off my over-educated tongue, guys get to know what they are dealing with.

I command respect at work with my language and the way I deal with things. I have proven many doubters wrong. But the important part is I had to *actively* earn that respect.

Nonetheless, I will play along with guys. Because I find it amusing :~] I can always turn the tables if I wish ...

I just let them do their spiel. Luckily I am good at predicting what words people are going to want to use before they do and I can sometimes help the man finish his thought in a more timely manner. Or even better make him instruct me on how to do it my way. Let him think he was taking the lead. At the very least I will listen patiently then go do the job the way I know how.

The worst is when I am working with a pair of men and I offer a solution to some problem with the project. I just get ignored now and a few moments later one of the men will pipe up with my idea as if it were his own. Then we end up doing what needs done. Makes me wonder why I spent the last decade learning all the tricks of my trade.

I just turn on elevator muzak on my mind while they make their discourse. Years ago I would have felt compelled to shut their mouths, but nowadays I really don't care. I just nod and let them feel great about themselves lol.

Even if a clearly under-educated man tries to master me and teach me how to do things (obviously wrong), you know, I don't care at all. I just let the guy be happy and live in his own fantasy world.

Try running the Benny Hill Theme instead... I find it improves everything.

Omg, I should try this. Then again, I'd probably laugh straight in their face because it would be funny. lol -- really laughing now, lol.

I used to have the urge to let these types know they were wrong and explain why, but then I came to realize:

1) Their pathological need to act knowledgeable is due to insecurity.

2) My need to prove them wrong, was because it bothered me that they thought I knew less than them.

3) Those who speak the most and/or the loudest, often know the least, or are just repeating second-hand opinions.

In the process of transitioning, I've learnt to care less about what others think of me, and I no longer need to prove myself in the eyes of people who don't matter to me.

I now let them finish without interrupting, smile, say "thank you", then carry on with whatever I was doing. :D
