I searched the forums looking for this subject, but did not come up with anything, so I will start the topic here.  Mods please move if wrong forum section.

So, I go in for my biannual cleaning yesterday and my dentist (fully aware of me being mtf) says that I have male teeth, which are typically square and flat, and that she can feminize them with an enameloplasty by shaping them and making them more like natal female's teeth.  I had not heard this before.  She gave me a mirror and I looked at my teeth, then I looked at my wife's (cis) and then I looked at the female dentist's (cis) and I was taken aback at the stark difference.

One article I read said:
"There are anatomical differences between masculine and feminine teeth.  Women have smaller, softer appearing incisors and less pointy canines.  Men have bigger, square teeth."

Some google searches turned up a few hits on feminizing enameloplasty and most of them were how Jenner needs it done to hers. lol  I know there would be some loss if enamel, but my dentist assured me it is not destructive nor tooth life shortening.

Anyone heard of this?  I asked her how much it would cost (because I definitely want it....hey, I can use any help I can afford/get) and she wanted to do it for me at no cost.  I am curious, though, of the typical cost for something like this, but more interested to know if anyone here has done this?

There might be something in it, but honestly how often do you look at your mouth and think OMG I have such male teeth!

In any case I've just done a bit of a straw poll here and as always its a range and not a clean binary.

You can find a few women with what you might call male teeth and a few men with female teeth - and then there is also a range inbetween - so while it may be technically true that there is a typical trend I don't really think you should waste your money unless it bothers you. I have to say I personally wouldn't give it a moments thought.

I have not done that (until last night lol), but I do believe that it is a subconscious addition to the assessment of one's gender that people make, just like a male voice subconsciously contributes to male (mis)gendering.

I almost agree with you.   Fortunately for me, she offered to do them free of charge.  I see it akin to shaping your brow.  Sure, many women have full, unshaped brows.  But, the presence of a defined and feminine shaped brows adds to the impression of female.  So, like I said, I will take any advantage I can afford and/or get.   That being said, point taken on the vanity of things, though. [color me vain   ]

I'm sure lots of people with my face might have had FFS or use makeup - I do neither, but then looks have never really bothered me, which is why I only ever did GRS because that was the bit I constantly noticed, although to just about everyone else its invisible unless I undress. Although to be fair I wasnt exactly a square jawed six footer, and my voice is in the indeterminate range where it causes no raised eyebrows either way - so perhaps I might have felt differently if I had been less fortunate.

This all should about doing what makes you happy I guess, so if the teeth bother you then go for it.

       You won't find much about teeth shaving for facial feminization, which was also a problem for me. However, when I went to Buenos Aires for my ffs with Dr.Rossi (see my thread) I had his wife, who is a dentist and oral surgeon, reshape my two front teeth which were big and square. She gave them a really nice feminine shape big, big difference in my opinion. My partner and also my mom were quite surprised at the difference. Dr. Ousterhout was also a proponent of teeth contouring. I say go for it but make sure the dentist isn't too aggressive. Even 1 millimeter taken off to curve teeth will make a difference. Too much and you might get permanent sensitivity.

The procedure was quick and painless.  Was lucky to have digital X-rays to send the dentist. For the shaving and professional teeth whitening (with custom take home mold) I paid $500. Hope all this helps good luck!

Yes this is fascinating! I'd never heard of this either.
I did hear years ago that men have bigger teeth as a general rule but I don't know how accurate that is...any toothpaste model you look at has teeth like piano keys and super shiny.
I get though what you're saying about Kaitlyn Jenner's teeth too...That definitely makes a good case for this being true (I always thought Bruce's were fake, sorry Bruce:(...I never noticed on Kaitlyn though...)

The dentist/oral surgeon who did my teeth contouring mentioned that the difference is that female front teeth are rounder. She (Dr. Castellano, Dr. Rossi's wife) shaved one of my front teeth and gave me a mirror so I could see the difference as compared to the other she hadn't yet done. I'm telling you guys, it was a big difference. If you had squarish teeth like me, I couldn't recommend it enough. And in my opinion, this procedure certainly counts as facial feminization. I mean, why not? Your smile makes all the difference

I'm a dentist and i totally agree that the shape of the upper front teeth can contribute to feminizing one face. Shaving can help if the problem is mild to moderate, but in case a dramatic change needs to be achieved i recommend veneers.

@possessed ...good to know you agree!  I have been paying attention to people's teeth, and notice the difference in the majority people that I encounter.  I plan to go through with it.

My appt. is Oct. 17th for the enameloplasty.  I will update this when it is done.  I will take before and after pics...

I haven't been to a dentist in a while, so I'm going in for a cleaning & consult with a reputable cosmetic dentist in Beverly Hills tomorrow. I don't think my teeth are very square to begin with, so I don't even expect to have anything done. But I will be happy to report what she says!

Had to cancel my appointment for today, one of my cats ate something weird and I had to take him into the vet! I am pretty busy in upcoming weeks so I'm not sure when I'll have a chance to go in.

Hi!  I'm a dentist too.  I'm going to pm you when I get to 15 posts.  Have you been practicing for a long while?  I haven't started practicing yet, I'd love to talk about it though if you have the time.

Also, as for the thread.  I agree I think this can be one of the little things that adds femininity to you in a positive way and if its not to expensive why not.  Unfortunately most things in our bodies are sexually dimorphic so why not change the things that you can, if you can.  I have big incisors that probably come off as masculine, like freaking vampire fangs so I'm probably going to get them shaved eventually.

Since I'm weird I'll post a blurry before/after for educational purposes. It was hard finding these pics but here goes. Also to the possessed and SamSparks, you might notice a bit of asymmetry, but I'm not certain about that. It's not noticeable unless one really pays close attention. If I had only gotten the the teeth shaving without the teeth whitening, it would have been $150 (American dollars paid in Buenos Aires). Top pic after, bottom before:



Subtle difference but overall definitely worth it in my opinion.

I have some dental work to be done, namely my front tooth has a small chip that I need filled. Plus I need a cleaning. I also have maybe some orthodontic work to be done to reduce the spacing in my front teeth. I fell down the stairs as a child and this somehow caused my upper incisors to space out. Not quite like Cletus from the Simpsons but enough to cause me distress. It's like 1mm spaced. Growing up the stigma and cost of braces didn't have me get them, so my parents did not. Alas, I wish I had gotten them.

I may also want to opt for some rounding too.

If it's cheap enough I may do it relatively soon, before I get my new passport pics.
